Recently I’ve been experiencing with lots of different beans, after I had a blood test a few weeks ago - all my levels were AMAZING, however my protein levels weren’t were they should be. Beans are very high in protein and I personally prefer to limit my soy intake so I’ve been having beans pretty much every single day; black, navy and kidney beans are my favourite. If you find it hard to stomach beans I highly recommend working with a naturopath (as I did), to increase your gut flora (most people have an imbalance) so that your body can break down the beans and you won’t have pain!
I’ve tried a few black bean brownie recipes before but found that unless I added protein powder or a heap of vegan choc-chips, they were relatively dry and tasteless, so I decided to make my own and I’m so happy with how these taste!!

Recipe ↡↡
Ingredients (metric)
✱200g canned black beans, drained and rinsed
✱50g ripe-very ripe banana
✱50g oat flour
✱2 TBSP raw cocoa powder
✱40g melted coconut oil
✱75g maple syrup or agave
✱1/2 tsp baking powder
✱ few drops vanilla extract
✱ chopped walnuts

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius and line a brownie form with baking paper.
In a bender or food processor on medium speed, add all ingredients except the walnuts and blend until smooth. Stir under the walnuts, and spoon the mixture into the form. (You could use muffin cups too)

For choc topping
Either
✱ mix 1/2 cup of vegan choc-chips in the dough
Or
✱melt 1/4 cup of cocoa butter or coconut oil in a pot together with 1/4 cup maple syrup and 1 TBSP raw cocoa powder, and pour the mixture over the brownies once they have cooled!! ENJOY!

Have you had your daily nuts? The Global Burden of Disease Study has just announced that a poor diet is the biggest risk factor to health - it kills more people than smoking or alcohol. A poor diet consists of processed and red meats, junk food and low amounts of plant proteins. The number one risk factor is excess salt consumption, and number 2 is insufficient intake of nuts. Full of protein, good fats, fibre, minerals and vitamins, nuts are one of the healthiest foods on the planet. People are often scared that nuts will make them put on weight, but studies in fact show the opposite - nuts help with weight loss, as they increase satiety and speed up fat burning metabolism. Different nuts have different properties - walnuts are high in omega 3s, almonds are high in calcium, brazils are high in selenium, etc, so try and eat a variety - about a quarter of a cup of mixed nuts in total.
Another study has shown the 'prescription' of fruits and vegetables, wholegrains and nuts would save hundreds of billions of dollars in healthcare costs and save millions of lives. So take it from me - eat a Wholefood Plant-Based diet, and go nuts!
