Please don't crisp on me!
.
Was so excited to finally get my hands on a #calatheaorbifolia from Encinal. Thank you to @thepineappleestate for calling to put one on hold for me. And thank you to @plantmemeow for going with me to pick it up!
.
Since I received it a month ago, it's already produced 2 new leaves and neither has crisped yet. All the crispies in the photo were already there when I received it!
.
So what's my strategy...
I tend to water it a little bit every other day, keeping the soil sightly moist. I also mist the plant every morning before work and every night before bed. (I know. I'm DTM.) Also, I've been keeping it on the bottom shelf, furthest away from my grow light. I guess it's still flourishing in moderate indirect light. Hopefully it continues at the same growth pace

Has anyone converted their orbifolia to LECA? I'm interested to know how well it does in passive hydroponics...
.
.

.
Only a couple more days left to enter my giveaway. Don't miss out on these awesome prizes!
Honestly, I haven't been having much luck with anthuriums in LECA...but I refuse to stop trying!
.
My anthurium forgettii lost a couple leaves right after I converted it to passive hydroponics, but it seems to be adjusting well now.
.
Everyone cross your fingers for a new leaf soon. It would make daddy very happy
Mother of pink dragons.
.
I picked up this #alocasiapinkdragon at @planttherapysf earlier in spring. The mother plant was so temperamental, she gave me a ton of pups and then withered away to a stump (fingers crossed I can revive her ). I saw that @laurens_leaves was also having difficulty keeping her pink dragon happy in soil, so she converted her plant to LECA (lightweight expanded clay aggregate).
.
Now I’ve heard of LECA, but have been reluctant to give it a try. The thought of barerooting my plants sounds gross. For being a plant parent, I really dislike touching dirt. More for the fear of finding and touching bugs in it because I’ve definitely seen centipedes and spider mites in potted plants before!
.
With the help (and persistence lol) of @mr.plantdaddy, I finally gave into the dark side and now tagging along his #mylecajourney. I discovered that barerooting is actually pretty therapeutic for me, plus how cute do they look in these mason jars?!
.
For the time being, I’m watering them with water mixed with superthrive just below the root line. I plan to let my plants acclimate first to their new medium before I start with the tri-color nutrient mix.
.
Anyone else out there a LECA advocate? How are your plants liking it's new environment?
.
Oh yeah, swipe right ⬅️ to see Mimi photobombing. Yes, I use her cat tree for photoshoots because it gets the best lighting.

Happy #waxplantwednesday
.
Just kidding. You're right. The alocasia cuprea is not really considered a wax plant.
.
However, you have you agree that it's even shinier and glossier than some wax plants!
.
The moment I received these alocasias from @plantthatplant I converted them to LECA. I was a little hesitant, as I have never converted an alocasia before. Luckily, my cupreas have been pushing out new leaves, and even pups! I guess they are happy! I think it's helping that I am extra careful not to submerge any roots under the water line.
.
Right now, I'm trying to decide if I like the leaves concave or convex...
Which do you prefer
.
Also, looks like I'll have some full sized plants and pups for sale soon. Anyone interested? DM me.

A little late for #trailingthingsthursday but...
.
Last night I was shocked to see this long green pointy thing attached to my string of hearts
.
Is it a mutation? Is it going to produce flowers? Is it going to unfurl into a ginornous heart-shaped leaf?
.
I sent the picture to some friends and apparently it's a seed pod!
I guessing that means the flowers were somehow pollenated when I used to keep it outdoors...? .
Not going to lie. I'm a little bummed it's not going to turn into a ginornous heart leaf
.
.
Purchased this healthy, flourishing #stringofhearts from @modestleaf
.
And thank you @thepineappleestate for referring me to @cyrilcybernated for his expertise
Happy #internationalcatday to all the feline parents out there!
.
While Mimi is most likely sleeping now, I’m off to Arizona for a bachelorette this weekend. ♀️♀️ I’m going to miss my kitty, plants, and fiancé. Fingers crossed they are all alive by the time I’m back.

Wishing everyone an amazing weekend!
Who has fun summer weekend plans? I wanna know :) @plantmemeow and I will be celebrating with our dear friend, @neemkween who just had a birthday. He's an old grandpa now
Please welcome the new leaf to my philodendron domesticum Jose Buono. Not sure what the correct name for it is. What I found is that new leaves may be be produced with white variegation--however, over time, the variegation begins to fade. Anyone else experiencing this?
.
Now I know I gotta take my photos stat!

I U, anthurium gymnopus!
Love your -shaped leaves!
Please don't die on me
.
.
I'm sad to say that soon after I took this picture, I potted the plant in LECA with super thrive water. A day later, both leaves started turning yellow. Hopefully it's just part of the acclimation process. Fingers crossed. Please send me prayers and good thoughts
