The sea turtle swallowed the straw, and then had it stuck up its nostril while trying to cough the straw out. They applied disinfectant to the area and the bleeding stopped shortly afterwards. Once the turtle was breathing freely, they return him to the ocean . It’s estimated that 100 000 marine animals die each year because of plastic. ☠️ Even though they seem armless to us, we need to open our eyes . They are especially dangerous to seabirds, as they can be easily picked up and swallowed, suffocating and choking the bird. In fact, over 1 million seabirds die each year from ingesting plastic. ⚠️By 2050, 99% of all seabirds will likely be eating plastic. Last Summer Walt Disney announced they would be banning single-use plastic straws and stirrers from all locations across the Globe except Tokyo. They are hoping to have this ban fully implemented by the middle of this year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The ban will cause a reduction amounting to 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers a year!!! In the night of 1 and 2 January a cargo ship has lost 270 containers into the North Sea. Some of the containers and or their contents have been washed ashore on the "Wadden eilanden”. As a result, the beaches are flooded with plastic, packaging materials and other goods. What can you do to help out? Various clean-up actions have been started. @rederijdoeksen and Wagenborg Passenger services offer voluntary helpers a crossing at a reduced rate. @StichtingDeNoordzee has set up an action to clean up Terschelling on Saturday and @Staatsbosbeheer and @zeehondencentrum Pieterburen are also actively cleaning up. Various beach restaurants on the islands share garbage bags. The government have indicated that shipping company MSC is liable for the damage.
