Visualizing Success
(My Last 40/80 Session Before Vegas)
-
Before sessions I like to visualize exactly how much I aim to win while taking a freezing cold shower with the coldest water possible. I do this because I’m a firm believer that visualizing achievements leads to better overall results, (both in poker and in life). I use freezing cold water because it wakes me up and I believe that tackling and overcoming a physical discomfort increases my tolerance for pain and strengthens my ability to withstand the inevitable psychological discomforts of bad beats and annoying opponents.
-
When I’m using this visualization technique, I clearly envision a profit of somewhere between $400 and $800, which is an extremely achievable and reasonable goal given the stakes that I play. However, before this particular session, there was a fire inside of me and instead of visualizing an easily achievable goal, I envisioned winning $5,000 later that night.
-
With that being said, this is a mid-session pic. During this 14 and a half hour session I got as close as $4700 in profit, which was only $300 away from reaching my goal. However, near the end of this session I encountered cold cards and epic runbad, (not to mention both physical and mental fatigue), and I ended up donating back a little over half of my profits before I finally decided to call it quits, book the W, and call it a day.
-
Oh and btw, although I’ve had losses in the last 3 weeks at other limits, (including one 8/16 loss at the Orleans, one 15/30 loss at Hollywood Park, and one 20/40 loss at the Gardens), my 40/80 session winstreak currently sits at 6.
-
Lastly, stay tuned for my next poker post, which describes in full detail what it was that lit that fire inside of me in the first place. #DoYouEvenStackChips 6/22/19
