When Olivia sat down in my chair this time, the literal words out of her mouth were “I don’t actually know why I’m here” AND THATS THE BEAUTY OF THIS TECHNIQUE!!! Her ends are bright and her babylights are SEAMLESS!!! Olivia doesn’t see a horizontal grow out line, so she gets to love her hair from the day she gets it done until she sits back down in my chair two months later. She doesn’t need more, but it’s hard to resist.
Look at all that dreamy dimension •

Here’s the DEAL, bad extension applications hurt us all. It harms the client and creates a distrust for extensions as a whole. The above picture is my work and the below is work on a consultation coming from elsewhere. Let me break down the difference:
-Sectioning: working in clean sections allows the hair to grow in with less matting. This poor client is already experiencing matting due to the sloppy application. You can see how the hair is going all different ways, it’s not growing downward in line with the natural hair fall. This is creating matting that is happening WAY before tangling should be an issue.
-Distance from Scalp: Extensions must be a place in line with natural hair fall. That means that they should be at least a half inch from the scalp in order for it to grow in without any tension point. If put in to tightly, as in this photo which was done two weeks ago, which means that these were nearly on her scalp. That creates tension and breaks the hair off. You can see all the little hair follicles prematurely popping off in that photo. Not to mention the pain caused by them being too tight! Ouch! Extensions should not be painful. -Bond size: Strands need to match the amount of hair being pulled into each bond. This ensures that not too much weight is being put on a section. This clients hair density is thick and needs bigger bonds however the natural hair being pulled into into these bonds was too little... So the large bond is pulling on the hair, adding tension and breaking them off or sliding and pulling out prematurely.
If this post triggers you, ask yourself why? This post is in no way meant to put anyone down but to help us all elevate our craft and do better. As stylists we should be learning constantly and exponentially improving. Questions, DM me or another stylist you love. Take more classes. I cannot speak more highly of @greatlengthsusa certification for upping your extension game. Let’s make the extension community beam with pride and help more clients feel their best. #lyndsaymaderishair @thairapypdx @behindthechair_com #behindthechair #pdxextensions #howiwearmygl #extensions #unapologetichairpro
