One year ago I was 36 weeks and 2 days pregnant with twins. I had just been taken off bed rest and couldn’t wait to get outside for a walk. (Now I would kill for a day of bed rest. Funny how that works!) Little did I know—I would be meeting our babies the very next day! This year has gone by so quickly, and I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect first year with Asher & Allie. .

✨7 days postpartum ✨ .
One whole week of snuggling our new little man. I’m fully aware that this isn’t my *normal* type of post, it’s not set up perfectly, it’s not at all staged, and it’s just a straight up selfie. But, I need to speak my truth. THIS IS POST PARTUM. Full saggy belly, stretch marks, nursing bras, mesh underwear, and comfy sweats. I get this is not my “best look” but I’m 200% not ashamed to share it. This is the body the created and sustained an entire human for 9 months, and is currently providing him with food. I am so proud of everything it’s done for me. So no, I’m not back to normal yet, it took 9 months to get here and it takes some time to start feeling and looking back to your old self. .

Moms have so much pressure, to be a certain thing or look a certain way, and it’s just not the truth. It’s not fair, and I don’t want to be a part of it. So let’s celebrate all we have accomplished Mamas, you’re all rockstars! .

What has your post baby body done that amazes you? I know and can relate about how hard body confidence can be after having a baby and sometimes it’s helpful to remember how incredible these bodies are!

“I don’t want my body back.
The body I had before baby.
Yes that body was thinner, more toned, and had a stronger bladder.
That body didn’t have stretch marks on its breasts, butt, legs, stomach and every where in between.
But I never knew the power of my body until I had a baby.
This body that held a baby for 9 months (or let’s be real 10 months). The body that grew a human being.
This body that spent 13 long hours in labour and even though it felt like a truck hit me after, still knew what to do so that it could birth a human being! .
This body that can function on far less sleep then I ever thought possible.
This body that can walk around Walmart holding a 30 pound toddler for an hour without even breaking a sweat (ok with breaking a bit of a ). When I look down at my stomach there are so many stretch marks but I’m beginning to see them as beautiful. Each mark a reminder of this amazing gift I’ve been given to create humans.
If I had my body back I wouldn’t have known the joy, strength, and absolute beauty that this body now has.
So now instead of following a crazy diet or exercise to get my body back, I’m focusing on treating this body with the respect it deserves.
Feeding it well, moving it, and instead of being enemies with this new body, I’m working on being a friend with this body.
No, I don’t want my body back.
I want to love this new body I’m in and thank it for giving me the best joy of all.
