Building A Brand episode 9 was released yesterday and covered the packaging stage of the project Which packaging option do you prefer and why?

@hamiltonfamilybrewery have a strong connection with locals and the people that taste their beers in their tasting room. With plans to distribute their beers on shelves outside of their brewery in Rancho Cucamonga, they wanted to ensure they can still connect with people through the can of beer sitting on a shelf.

Many products rely exclusively on design to make a sale, and alcohol is one of them. It's vital for packaging to grab a consumer's attention and then communicate the right information prior to making a purchasing decision.

Hamilton wanted to portray two things in their packaging; heritage and fun. Here's the three options that the Blind team came up with:
.
1️⃣ OPTION ONE: FLAVOR STRIPES
Screams flavor to @matthewencina (much to @mrbenburns' dispute ) because Hamilton's fruit-flavored beers stand out so much and the stripes instantly portray this.
.
2️⃣ OPTION TWO: SPLIT
The colorful label hints to what the flavors are like inside and the matte hop icon is cleverly shown in the background. However, it uses a typeface that the Blind team had never used before, which they worried didn't portray 'heritage' like they've done consistently so far.
.
3️⃣ OPTION THREE: IN YOUR HANDS
The color provides the fun and the typography provides the heritage feel. Perfect for flexibility; it has the identifiable Hamilton blue with the hop icon in the background, but the colorful label can be swapped out depending on the ingredients and there's room for an illustration behind the name to further portray this. This is also the only can with the beer info above the logo, which will sit beautifully on a shelf that might usually cover the bottom section of the can, to put the unique flavor front and centre.

Yesterday I took a little bit of time to add a personal touch to my bubble mailers. I decided to make a unique spray paint stencil and brand all of my packaging moving forward.
I think branding is an under utilized part of our businesses and that we should do more work to make sure that our brand is in front of potential customers.

After kicking around some ideas for a desert-themed Jurassic toyline with @chrislikesdinos, we both took a crack at what the packaging might look like.
