Here’s a Plymouth Redbelly Turtle (Pseudemys rubriventris bangsi): a unique, disjunct, and federally endangered turtle that I first learned about in an early 1990s article in Reptile and Amphibian magazine (remember that one). These turtles are found only about 30 ponds in Plymouth and Bristol counties in Massachusetts and are disjunct from the nearest population of the nominate species about 200 miles away in New Jersey. Photos don’t do justice to just how large these turtles can be - up to/over a 15” carapace length. Look at the size of this gal next to those mature eastern painted turtles!!
