Current mood because...PSLE is officially done and dusted! ✌︎✌︎✌︎ . . . Today as I was invigilating the science paper, I couldn’t help but be so so thankful for the education system (albeit the stressful exams). Looking at the questions, I realise how much we get to learn about the wonderful ways that things work around us. Science. Math. English. Music. Art. PE. Extra activities. Excursions. Things we would probably not come across if we weren’t in school. Which then reminded me of my role as a teacher; the power I have at hand to show how learning is so much fun (even though how many watermelons Sally bought has nothing to do with me lol) and how the content is so intriguing and interesting in itself. It’s so important how we present the information to the kids, in a way that they approach knowledge with awe and excitement instead of fear, anxiety and inferiority. It’s the same for children regardless of background or race or colour ☺︎ will hence continue digressing in class so that I can share more about the world around us. My family and I migrated to Singapore in 1993. Having to repeat grade 5 again, I did my PSLE the following year and scored 251 (Top 10% in SG). I got into my first choice secondary school. Graduated, then pursued my Bachelors degree in Melbourne, then a Masters degree from Boston, before getting married at 22. . So how does that set of number define me? It really depends on how you see success. . If you see success from the current job I’m doing, I totally failed. I’m a SAHM. If you see success from the clothes I wear, I also failed. I wear pajamas and home clothes, and I don’t see the need to show off. If you see success from the title in my name, I may have won you over. But none of that title prepares me for what lies ahead, neither does that 3 numbers I scored in my PSLE. . One thing that will bring you through life is if you hold on to God. Life is full of changes and uncertainties. You can’t blame the world for what is happening. But the way you react to things happening around you, will make you stronger and more able to handle what life brings you. Not how much you get in your PSLE. . I don’t influence the world. But I influence my 3 beautiful kids, and my small community. I don’t make big bucks. But I make time for my kids. I don’t wear expensive jewels, but I dress myself with strength. . So how does that 251 influence my life? Very little or none. Because those numbers do not define me. It doesn’t make me anything. What I am now, I owe it to God, and my faith in Him to carry me through the ups and downs of life. . If you’re a parent, stop forcing your child to do well academically. They may have strength somewhere else. If you’re a child, do your best! Don’t ever think the world owes you something. You work hard, stay humble, perservere, show kindness and focus on doing your responsibility. God will reward you. . Sending my love and prayers to my friends going into the PSLE week.
