PUT IT IN THE BOOKS! Mets demolish the 1st place Twins to take 3/4 in the Season Series!
The Mets and Twins went back and fourth up to the 5th... Miguel Sano hit an RBI single, Amed Rosario responded with a solo HR, Nelson Cruz responded to Rosario with his own HR, the Mets tied it back up on a groundout that scored Pete Alonso, then Minnesota retook the lead on a Mitch Garver solo shot. All that being said, it was a relatively normal game (aside from the 34 minute rain delay), Twins is 3-2 headed into the 7th.
But that’s when this Mets offense would EXPLODE! Dom Smith gave New York the 5-3 lead on a CLUTCH 3-run homerun.
The Amazin’s kept piling it on, increasing their cushion with a 6-run 8th inning shortly after. This included RBIs from Jeff McNeil, Smith, and most notably... an absolute 474 foot triple decker BOMB by Mr. Alonso.
At this point, it was 11-4 heading into the 9th but the Mets didn’t stop there! Rosario collected an 2-RBI triple, Hech posted an RBI double. And just like that, a once 3-2 deficit was now a 14-4 dominant win.
LET’S GOOO BABY! Huge 2-game sweep against a very tough Minnesota team, now the 4th best team in all of baseball.
Mets travel to the Bay Area to begin a 4-game set with the 46-49 Giants tomorrow! New York is now 5 games out of the NL Wildcard.

PUT IT IN deBOOKS! Mets win 6-2, and collect the series victory in the first set of the 2nd half!
Jeff McNeil got it started with a bang, leading off today’s contest with a solo HR.
Miguel Rojas tied it up shortly after with an RBI single in the 2nd, but the Mets would go on a rally in the 4th... in the 4th, New York re-took a 3-1 lead on an Adeiny Hechavarria groundout which scored Robinson Cano, and then a Michael Conforto RBI single.
In the 6th and 7th, the Amazin’s would increase that lead on a McNeil fielder’s choice which scored Hech, and another HR from Cano! That’s now 2 HRs in 2 days for Cano. The Mets would also collect another insurance run in the 8th from sac fly via Pete Alonso.
Jacob deGrom certainly wasn’t “deGrominant” today, but he did enough to get by. In 5 IP, deGrom surrendered 1 ER in 6 hits and 3 walks. But most importantly, he did earn himself the victory today.
From there, the bullpen was able to shut the door again this afternoon. Justin Wilson had a scoreless inning of work, Seth Lugo bailed out Jeurys Familia after he walked himself into a jam. Robert Gsellman would let up 1 run in 2 innings of work but that would be it!
With the win, New York is now 42-51 on the year. They’ll get a day off tomorrow, then the Mets will travel to Minnesota for a brief 2-game set with the AL Central leading Twins!

PUT IT IN THE BOOKS!!! METS HOLD ON BY THE SKIN OF THEIR TEETH TO BEAT THE 1ST PLACE TWINS! Jeeeeezzzz my heart was beating fast on that one... The Mets jumped on Minnesota early tonight, scoring 2 in the 1st on a Robinson Cano sac fly and a fielding error that scored Michael Conforto. This gave New York the early 2-0 cushion.
However, after Jonathon Schoop homered and Eddie Rosario scored on a groundout, all the sudden it was even at 2 by the end of the 4th inning.
In the 5th, Conforto — who had an electric night going 4-4 with a run-saving catch, knocked in the go ahead / game winning run with an RBI single.
Somehow someway, Robert Gsellman, Luis Avilan, Jeurys Familia, Justin Wilson and Seth Lugo were able to maneuver their way through 4 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
In the 9th, Edwin Diaz would make things extremely interesting... almost too interesting. After Schoop was strangely removed from the game with an injury in the middle of an 0-2 count, Diaz lost all of his rhythm... the bases were loaded, the count was 3-2. Mets were on their way to yet another blown save, our worst nightmare.
BUT NELSON CRUZ POPPED OUT AND THAT WOULD BE IT! Mets fans: REJOICE.
