Has something an adult said to you (good or bad) stayed with you for the rest of your life?
.
For me, it was being called “clumsy” and “shy”. I became incredibly self conscious about the way I moved my body, which in turn had a knock on impact on my enjoyment of sports and dance. I realise now I wasn’t ‘a shy child’, but an introvert. Not a personality flaw, or something I needed to change, but it caused me great anxiety throughout my teens and early twenties.
.
The way we speak to children can have lifelong implications. Even something we consider to be in jest, or a throwaway comment, can shape who that child will become.

Head for the hills
@creminelli -
We’re getting back into nature. One step at a time. We’ve left California for the great northwest and have tons of plans. We’ll be hiking, fishing, rafting, hunting, and of course bringing some tasty wild boar meat from Creminelli

I want my daughter to grow up fierce with a mindset to reach any goal that comes to mind.
I want my daughter to know her worth.
I want my daughter to know she is capable of anything if she puts her mind and STRENGTH into it.
I want my daughter to know that she is strong in many ways.
I want my daughter to love like no other, but also know that love is indeed a battlefield.
I want my daughter to have fun, ya know, because girls just want to have fun.
I want my daughter to have confidence in herself and her decisions in life.
I want my daughter to have the courage to stand up and speak up for what she believes is right.
I want my daughter to know that she is unique.
I want my daughter to know that everyone else is also unique and also beautiful in their own ways.
Most importantly, I want my daughter to know that she is and will always be loved and to know her roots and where she came from.
No matter where this world takes her in life.

Can we replace excess apologies with gratitude? This has been floating around for a few months now, but today I saw it and it spoke to my soul.
Why are you sorry?
I hear that question often. Because I apologize. A lot. As in, all the damn time. For everything. For nothing.
I was in an abusive relationship. I tried to fix it, fix him. Change myself to make him happy. I very quickly learned to be sorry. For everything. Not being enough for someone who’d never feel satisfied. For being me. For being wrong, in his eyes at least. Which was all that mattered at the time. Keeping him happy. Steady. Sober. And kind, which I usually only found at the end of a string of apologies. In hindsight it was probably pity, but in situations like that you take what you can get.
When I finally left that relationship I got help. Lots and lots of therapy. I’ve healed in many ways, but one thing I can’t stop doing is saying I’m sorry.
I see the pain in my parents’ eyes when it comes out of my mouth. The look that sweeps across my husband’s face, the constant apologies that don’t need to be said. And now my son is saying it. “I’m sorry I need milk, mommy. I’m sorry you have to change my diaper.”
Enough is enough.
I’m not going to be sorry any more.
It’s a long and hard habit that I’ll be consciously working to break. Sure, some things need apologies (don’t necessarily agree with everything in this pic; I think if I’m late I will still apologize). I started it tonight and it felt really, really good. Empowering. Healing.
I want to break the cycle. I will end it with me. My son will not become an excess apologizer.
Replace that sorry with a thanks. See how you feel.
Let’s raise them up to grow beyond even our own wildest dreams.
What do you think?
PA, I’ll always apologize for being late...

My boys are blessed to have such an amazing Grandpa. I look at him looking at my son, and my heart melts. Grandpa is a family man, best friend and the best kid accomplice . Everyone deserves a PamPaw they can show the same truck to 197 times, and it never gets old. He always sneaks their favorite sweets and follows them around while they explain the world through their eyes. It truly makes my heart happy to watch their bond grow .

Rowan turned one a couple months ago, so we invited immediate family to get together for some muffins and coffee. It was a rainy day and it was so cozy coming together to celebrate our sweet girl. We didn’t buy any decorations and I gave her a homemade banana muffin for her “cake.” She wore her normal clothes from the thrift store and so did we (lol). All the gifts our family members got for her were from our wishlist, nothing extra! Although we wouldn’t consider ourselves minimalists, that’s what we’re working toward. For now we’re just big on keeping things as simple and useful as possible. The focus wasn’t on a theme or the food, just Rowan. I wonder how everyone else does birthday parties?
