RED LIGHT THERAPY
This week I’m adding a new treatment to my routine- red light therapy!
At some point last year I came across an article on red light therapy, and since then I’ve been doing tons of reading/research on the many benefits this treatment has to offer.
I finally got a light of my own thanks to @platinumledtherapylightssocial and I’m so excited to start incorporating this into my treatment regimen!
The first thing that piqued my interest when reading about red light therapy was its ability to stimulate the mitochondria, allowing cells to more efficiently create ATP (energy). Since there is research showing mitochondrial issues for those of us with MECFS, this was exciting to read.
Some other benefits include:
* Reduced inflammation (helpful for joint/ muscle pain, overall inflammation)
* Improved circulation (interested to see if this affects my POTS symptoms/blood pooling at all)
* Improved thyroid function (a lot of us with chronic illness suffer from low/ sluggish thyroid function, which can further impact fatigue + energy issues)
* Improved circadian rhythm + quality of sleep (poor sleep is almost a given with chronic illness- but it’s such a vicious cycle because the less quality sleep I get, the worse I feel, and the worse I feel, the less I sleep!)
* Stimulates collagen production and improves skin health (scarring, wrinkles, cellulite)
As an added bonus @platinumledtherapylightssocial devices are designed to emit zero EMFs when used at the recommended distance (6 inches). I was tempted to try a red light bed in a commercial wellness spa, but after reading that they tend to emit very high levels of EMFs I decided to hold off. With this light I don’t have to worry about EMFs and can do treatments in the comfort of my home! ❤️
There are hundreds of clinical studies supporting the benefits I mentioned above as well as others, so check them out online if you’d like to learn more.
If you’ve tried red light therapy, I’d love to hear your experience! Or if you have any other alternative treatments that you’ve found beneficial (devices, supplements etc) feel free to share!

Ever heard of androgenic alopecia? That’s what I have, and it’s why I keep my hair short.
It actually doesn’t stand out too much in these pics because I just got a fresh dye, (which makes hair appear thicker) but you can scroll back to previous posts and see how thin my hair is.
So here’s what happens: when women have androgenic alopecia, it means that over time they lose hair mostly from the crown, and then it slowly thins out all over.
It’s genetic, and there’s no cure for it; though you can limit the effects with certain things, like making sure you’re not iron deficient, supplementing with biotin, eating a nutrient-rich diet, and limiting situations that cause additional hair loss — like surgery or anything that pulls too tight on the scalp.
.
(There are also studies showing that red light therapy from brands like @joovv and @redtherapyco can mitigate hair loss and increase growth. But I have yet to test that myself.)
.
And while you might think “androgenic” alopecia means I have high testosterone, unfortunately that’s not the case. Blood tests show that my T levels are normal, and when I struggled with #BII, they were even below normal. So unfortunately there’s no correlation.
But I inherited it from my mom, and she inherited it from her dad. Maybe I’ll rock a bald head one of these days like grandpa did.
Why tell you about any of this? Two reasons.
1. I just realized how stupid it was to be ashamed of a genetic condition I didn’t cause and have little control over.
2. I have questions about “hand tied hair extensions” because my hair dresser has been discussing them with me.
After researching extensions it appears as though they’re super common — way more than I ever thought. So if you have experience with them, what are your thoughts? Could they possibly create tension on the scalp, and cause MORE hair loss?
.
And do YOU have any experience with androgenic alopecia? It’s a lot more common in guys... but baldness is celebrated in men. Not so much women.
Treat stubborn acne with @Michaeltoddbeauty Clear Bilight phototherapy device. #MichaelToddBeautyPartner
Clear blilight is an FDA approved device that helps fight off mild to moderate inflammatory acne by using the power of light to kill bacteria. Blue/Red light therapy has been clinically proven to help kill off bacteria found in blemishes, while also calming inflammation to help prevent future breakouts. The blue light functions to kill acne causing bacteria found in the skin while the red light reduces inflammation that accompanies acne. Breakouts are the worst. I felt one coming on just last week, but this little gadget came to the rescue and fought off the pimple before it even had a chance to surface. I’ve normally only used phototherapy at spas after a facial, but now I can do it in the comfort of my own home. You can get get yours today online or in store @UltaBeauty

You may or may not have seen me using this device lately. This is an extremely versatile instrument in “hacking” your health. Here are some of the evidence based benefits ➡️ .
.
.
Wound healing, growth and development of nerve tissue, increased libido, sleep and relaxation, skin conditions, reduction of inflammation.
.
.
I have been using it in particular for muscle recovery and athletic performance.
Getting back to a consistent routine of weight training, yoga, and rock climbing I wanted to maximize my support.
.
.
This device by @joovvsocial delivers red & near infrared wavelengths. When this light hits your cells it provokes a chemical reaction. This signal helps boost energy production, regeneration, and create an enhanced cellular environment. .
.
A randomized controlled trial by Alemieda et al. showed that the subjects that used red and infrared light therapy had a significantly less delay in muscle fatigue and enhanced skeletal performance. Another study by Paolillo et al. showed that red light therapy can improve muscle power and again reconfirmed the muscle endurance finding.
.
.
Other studies have shown that light therapy can increase circulation, oxygenation, delay muscle soreness (something I often experience from exercise) as well as promoting the creation of antioxidants. All super important in healing and performance.
.
.
As your cells increase it’s energy production it also reduces oxidative stress thus your body is more efficiently able to handle athletic stressors while regenerating faster. The light has shown to be safe and effective. I am a fan and support it. Really cool!
I’ve decided to use this account to share content with you. Content about topics that interest, inspire and move me. My decision is based on questions that I get via DMs. I hope I can answer and help you with my opinions, tips and researches. So join me on my journey of traveling, lifestyle, beauty, health, relationships, motivation and mindsets. ✈️♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let’s go...✍️ When it comes to topics like health (especially health!), I’ve been always the type of person who’s skeptical about the mainstream views, reports and news about health. There’s always a reason why something is portrayed as good or bad by the media - not having OUR best interests in mind. In my opinion, there exist more myths than truths about sunbeds/tanning beds. Like everything in life: if sunbeds are used in moderation, they can have notable benefits on our mood, immunity and physical performance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Why? A balanced composition of UV-A and UV-B rays increases your vitamin D production. The same effect can be achieved by sitting at least 20 minutes in the sun. Since I don’t live in a mostly warm and sunny country, I supplement vitamin D and try to lay on a sunbed approx. 1-2 times a month.
Official sites and the media still classify sunbeds as unsafe and as a trigger for melanoma (skin cancer) - but there’s no scientifically proven correlation between those! It’s rather vitamin D that can prevent and even fight cancer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So let the sunshine (or sunbed rays) in!☀️⚡️ #sunbed #healthandwellness #skincare #skincaremyths #beautytips #estheticslife #sunshineinmysoul #skincareroutine #healthyliving #beautybloggers #tan #tanningbed #tanning #tanned #tanninglines #vitamind #vitaminddeficiency #solariumflow #redlighttherapy #beautyreview #beautygram #fakenews #educateyourself #instablog #instagood #instapic
