Mornin’ y’all! It’s been a good, long while since you guys have seen this view, so I got her all dressed up with these divine blue #hydrangeas to show ya! . . It’s hard to believe but this area used to be completely boxed off. The current support beam above my island was the former hallway wall. You can see the former dining room entrance wall location in the foreground. And just behind my table (sort of near my great grandmother’s pie safe) was another tiny wall that separated off a small breakfast nook. It was sooooo choppy, and I soooo love the way this space opened up! . . This was also one of the most deteriorated parts of my #cottage. The ceilings were starting to cave and water damage was rampant. You can tell by the color variation in the floor. My floor guy couldn’t sand deep enough (without making the floors to thin) to “cut” out all the water damage. So I left it! That’s all those beautiful black stripes and I love the variations so so much!! (And PS: That chandelier is also original. 93 years old!) . . The front of our house is still very much a work in progress, but this is a massive step forward! Our gorgeous new door was fitted yesterday and it was bye bye to the shoddy internal fire door the previous owners had installed as a front door, along with a dilapidated wooden outer door that didn’t even lock ‍♀️ thank god they hadn’t ripped out the original tiles too! It’s sawdusty and unfinished awaiting its worktops, tap, hob and plinths but the last week has seen a Herculean effort to get the kitchen installed. I’ve had countless messages after I storied this bargainous kitchen but the basic gist is this - cabinets and Blum/Hafele mechanisms from local cabinetmaker (Jays Furniture, Leicestershire) Ikea Kungsbacka doors and panels, Halifax Egger Oak drawer fronts from Benjamin James Kitchens and a joiner extraordinaire who can wave a wand and make it all work together. Once the dust has settled I’ll share a breakdown of costs because loads of you have asked for it. We’ve also agreed a move-in date with our builder for the weekend of the 15/16 June, a week ahead of my due date and everyone seems committed to making that happen. The entire downstairs has been cleared ahead of the floor being finished on Monday and decorators completing on Tuesday. Happy Sunday! The bathroom is still slowly but surely coming together. As evidenced by this pic, there is still some painting finishing touches that are needed...window treatments...etc. STILL waiting on shower door install and this time my hubs isn’t the reason for a delay BUT I got this cool ladder shelf basket (I think it was referred to as a “quilt ladder” on @wayfair) for storage and I’m loving how it fits in this corner of the bathroom!!! Ah May. The month when every other house in the street is having scaffolding put up, skips delivered, extensions built, gardens landscaped, brickwork repointed, windows painted or paving...um, paved. I was just sighing in relief that the constant shouting of cockney builders on a loft extension opposite us was finally dying down when a crew arrived today with a giant pile of sand and a wheelbarrow with a wheel that goes Eeeeee eeeeeee eeeeee. Back and forth. EEEEE EEEEE EEEEEE. All day. Wonder if anyone has ever been killed with a can of WD40? If we hadn't recently annoyed our neighbours with 6 years of renovation noise, I might even complain Eeeeeeeee.
