#SummerOf84: Every serial killer lives next door to someone. #Rating: B+. #Review: I know I’m really behind because I’m just watching this now but the good news is I really enjoyed. It reminded me a lot of Stand By Me/The Goonies mixed with RearWindow/Disturbia. I loved the 80’s vibe. The director did a great job nailing that time period. The whole movie oozed 80’s nostalgia. From the music to clothes to the overall vibe of the movie there were so many throwbacks & fun pop culture references. I surprisingly didn’t mind the longer running time. It to helped to build an interesting & creepy mystery & develop strong characters. There are plenty of suspenseful moments that will have you on the edge of your seat & holding your breath. The identity of the killer will have you questioning those around you because you never know just what secrets people are hiding. Speaking of which the characters where so well developed that you’ll be rooting for the boys from start to finish. Well most of them. I found two of them on the annoying side but I think it was because of the dialog they were given. It was a little juvenile at times but it suited the age of group of the friends. Moving on the bad guy was really well portrayed and definitely gives off those hidden killer vibes. He’s charming & creepy. And the parents are as naive as ever which is to be expected. Where those movie lost me was the ending. I hated it because I wasn’t expecting it. And also because of how attached I got to the characters. One of the few times a horror movie made me tear up. But overall this a must watch. RECENSIONE: #SummerOf84. Questo 2018, parlando di thriller e horror, è stato decisamente molto più entusiasmante del 2017 - dove, per fare una top 10 dei miei preferiti, ci ho dovuto ragionare parecchio -. Ma sta di fatto che il 2018 ha avuto un’abnorme quantità di film per niente originali. “Summer of ‘84” rientra proprio tra questi: cavalca l’onda del successo di “Stranger Things”, “It” e altri prodotti che puntano sulla nostalgia. Ha dei protagonisti estremamente stereotipati e una trama che richiama tanti classici degli anni ‘80 - ma anche più vecchi, basti pensare a “La finestra sul cortile” -. Ma cazzo se l’ho amato. Nonostante i difetti elencati poco fa, è entrato inaspettatamente nella mia lista dei preferiti del 2018. Simpatici i dialoghi, ottimo il rapporto tra i giovani protagonisti, strepitosa la colonna sonora, più che accettabile nel lato tecnico e ben sceneggiato, dato che alla fine tutto torna. C’è una cosa che però ho davvero amato: il colpo di scena è tutto tranne che un colpo di scena. Chi l’avrà visto, avrà sicuramente capito. Nonostante ciò, in certe scene sorprende, specialmente in un atto finale davvero inaspettato quanto significativo e attuale. Ma non inaspettato nel senso che “ommioddiochecolpodiscena”, inaspettato perché si discosta dal resto del film. Nel consenso di Rotten Tomatoes c’è scritto che il film preme eccessivamente l’acceleratore sulla sua “nostalgia degli anni ‘80”... ma solo a me non è sembrato? Avrebbero potuto sputare titoli di mille serie tv, film, libri, programmi televisivi, cibi, canzoni, giochi ma il film non esagera affatto, anzi, ne vengono nominati poco più di un paio. Come sempre, devo smetterla di leggere i punteggi e i consensi su quel Rotten Tomatoes di merda. VOTO: 8.5/10 (REVIEW: “Summer of ‘84”. It sure is unoriginal and derivative, but it works because of its character development, a smart script with fun dialogues, a superb score and the fact that its twist... isn’t exactly a twist. The ending was totally unexpected, not because there’s some kind of crazy twist, but because it is different from what I originally expected. 8.5/10)
