It’s one of the most sought after wines on the planet right now, this 2010 GMax from @kellerdalsheim, fetching absurd prices at auctions. At Concept Riesling on Düsseldorfs Carlsmarkt owner Philipp Kutsch and his star sommelier Toni Askitis were serving this by the glass yesterday. What a heavenly treat! A racy, mineralic Riesling with a perfect structure, that might well deserve a perfect score in 5-10 years, a bit young today, but sooooo good - WT97.
If you ever make it to Europe, Concept Riesling in Düsseldorf, where the wine scene really rocks is the place to be. Just one hour flight from most major city and worth any trip.

It's #fridaynight !!! It'time to relax and gettin ' ready for the weekend!! How do we do It? With a #riesling of course !!!! Today we go for a true gem! Riesling Erdener Treppchen Auslese from #weingutschwaab vintage 1992!! This another great reason of why we truly love old riesling vintages: an Auslese (late harvest) that has such a great acidity even after 27 years you almost don't feel it's a semi-sweet wine.
After 5 minutes we opened it and put in the glass, en explosion of flavours truly came out of It: exotic fruits (mango, pineapple), dried apricot, candied citrus and sweet spices. Then a huge boost of petrol notes comes out!!! Wow !! At the palate we find the same feelings + An almost endless finish! Only thing we have to say on this wine is that It has a light body ( where usually we found more medium or full body wine of that age). But still a beautiful #whitewine !! Dr. Robert weil purchased his first vineyards on the Kiedrich hillsides in 1867. At the time he was still engaged as a professor of German at the Sorbonne university in Paris
Weil's Rieslings were favorites of the aristocracy and also of the middle class. A 1920 Kiedricher Grafenberg TBA Weil's estate enriched the wine list of the LZ127 Grafzeppelin airship on its maiden voyage in 1928 to New York

After some misguidance Robert Weil found itself in financial difficulty. Support came in the form of Asian investment and Wilhelm Weil, the Great Grandson, Wilhelm has carried the familiar approach into modern times
Wilhelm Weil learned the intricacies of winemaking from the ground up. His efforts began in 1987 with far-sighted investments in the cellar and vineyards
Robert Weil now produces around 650,000 bottles per year. The belief is firmly in the expression of terroir, all top GG vineyards are treated organically, 100% hand-harvested and are fed by gravity (thanks to fantastic investment in a state-of-the-art winery) to the crusher and press. The grapes are pressed using only 1.5 bar of pressure, much more could be used however Wilhelm believes this would result in sub-standard end product. For the entry level wines selected yeast is used for the GG vineyards the fermentation is spontaneous using indigenous yeast. The wines spend a maximum of 9 months in impressive oak barrels that live in a cellar which has a waterfall to support humidity

Wehlener Sonnenuhr has long been one of my favourite Rieslings. This precipitously steep and rocky vineyard, literally translated to ‘The Sundial of Wehlen’ and aptly named after the large, south-facing, impressive sun dial which sits at its centre, yields some of the most elegant and sophisticated white wines in the world

It is no longer a secret that the Finger Lakes makes some of the world's best Rieslings, but do you know the best producers there? Ravines, a boutique winery owned by the husband-and-wife team Morten and Lisa Hallgren, crafts the top notch among them. Coming from an European background, their winemaking follows the old world traditions, but blended with new world spirits of exploration. This 2015 single cru dry riesling from Argetsinger Vineyard, one of the oldest Riesling parcels in the area, has limestone slopes that help forming a grand minerality and complex floral notes. The 2016 is quite delicate, with elegant white flower hints mingled with citrus fruits - that beautiful mouthwatering acidity keeps lingering in the aftertaste. Finger Lakes producers are still getting a sense of where the best terroirs are, but it is already a region full of surprises and hidden gems awaiting!
