I wasn’t a swimmer, I wasn’t a biker, I wasn’t a runner and I’m still not, but I am a goal getter, and I am a person who doesn’t stop still it’s done.
.
It’s been about two weeks since the Ironman and I wanted to share my thoughts on it for all of you.
.
1: the race is tough, but it’s the months leading up to it that is the hardest part. It’s dedicating months to training, weekends off to long workouts, feeling tired and always hungry, and mentally remembering why you did this in the first place. That’s the hardest part. The work the people don’t see.
.
2: for me, swimming in a wetsuit in open water was not that bad. People all the time we’re saying how bad you would freak out and how scary it is, but the only thing that freaked me out in the water was the realization that the thing I’ve been training for so long for was finally going, my race clock has started!
.
3: the bike was so amazing. This was by far my favorite and the thing I was dreading most. I was so proud I never got off my bike once to stop in the whole 56 miles. It was a great 3+ hours to cruise around Chattanooga and see its beauty and reflex on what you’re doing. I never once got bored, or started hurting, or questioning my actions. LOVED IT!
.
4: the run was way hard y’all, I won’t lie. Mostly because my legs at that point were just tired. My breathing and mental state were fine, I had no pains or cramps, but my legs were just tired. I only stopped to walk at the aid stations and up this one hill so I was really proud of myself for that. I legit never ran more than 8 miles before that day, SO yeah, 13.1 miles is doable. I was slow but hey, I did it!
.
5: final thoughts; zero regrets and beyond proud of myself and glad I did it. I loved creating a goal for myself and training for it and completing it. Loved all the people I got to do it with. Mostly loved spending so much time with Matt training together and completing our first big goal as a couple together and doing all of this together.
.
You don’t have to be a triathlete to do this. You don’t even have to have a crazy long athletic background....
.
But you do have to have determination and the mind set to complete anything you want.
This thing looks LEGIT! What do you think?
