Today is the International Day of Yoga... And I almost didn't say THANKS! When I was 18 I discovered yoga. Back then, I immediately knew that it would be part of my life forever... I'm not saying I practice everyday; there were times that I wouldn't visit my mat for MONTHS... not even for meditation... But inside of me I knew that I had a way of feeling centered, of coming back home... that's what yoga means to me: home. Sometimes we don't feel as we are ONE even with our own body and mind... In that kind of state, we can't feel like we belong to no family/ friends/ group... This lack of connection starts inside of us with OURSELVES. When we connect, we find space and we feel joy. We are then able to share this joy and end up building more and more joy... Life is such a blessing... sometimes we are not ready to experience it and fully receive it because we are “outside” of ourselves. So in this post, I would like to thank yoga for providing me with my safe place, right in the corner of my own mind, where I can always know, no matter what is happening... What does it mean to find your truth? You hear this new age-y language all the time… So sometimes we become numb to it . ~ A lot of truths that I thought were my own I now realize were unconscious belief systems that I had adopted from society, my parents, my friends. And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s a part of the human experience. The more aware I become of my own body and my own mental patterns, the more I uncover what my genuine truth is. Yes yes, that can make things a bit difficult because your truth could be radically different from everyone else’s. ~ I think it will take a whole separate post to tap in to how to express a radically different truth. But for today, let’s just talk about what it means to be in your body and evaluate your own belief systems. ~ To feel into your body and your heart space (leaving the fluctuations of the mind aside ) and realize whether there is an aversion to something or not on a physical level, is to understand your own truth. Don’t assume anything as a standard belief, even if if it seems obvious. Make it a regular practice to always check in with yourself and choose to differentiate what’s yours and what’s everyone else’s. This has been medicine for me.
