John Lautner, Carling House, 1948; interior and exterior. Lautner is a visionary Southern California architect. The Carling House is an early example of Lautner’s residential work, exhibiting a great deal of Wrightian influence. The home was included in HRG’s “Residential Architecture of John Lautner in Southern California, 1940-1994” National Register of Historic Places Multiple Property Documentation Nomination. @voguemagazine.
This Newtown home was built in 1740, decades before the colonies fought for independence. Connecticut representatives played an active role in forming the new country's structure once freedom was secured. Roger Sherman and Oliver Ellsworth broke an impasse between large and small states by proposing what became known as the Connecticut Compromise at the Constitutional Convention of 1787. The compromise called for proportional representation in the House and equal representation in the Senate regardless of population.
Roger Sherman had moved to nearby New Milford as a young man and eventually moved to New Haven, where he served as the first mayor. The father of 15 (by 2 wives) was the only person to sign all 4 founding documents: the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Association & of Confederation and the Constitution.
Washington appointed Ellsworth, a native of Windsor, to serve as the Supreme Court's third Chief Justice. Concurrently he was an envoy to France. He had been one of Connecticut's inaugural members of the US Senate, where he was a key ally of Alexander Hamilton. My latest story features images of Sherman and Ellsworth

Windcrest sits on the top of Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga and was designed by architect Samuel Patton. I got to tour this beauty when it went up for auction a few years ago and fell in love! ❤️My super talented friend is the designer on the home’s remodel. Drawing to come soon- because it’s too pretty not to :) •
