This is one of the several installations we created in 2004-2005 for show ICONOSMS which opened at Art+ gallery . The scent floating in the air from a system custom-built in the base lets you imagine the dress of the mannequin and allows your mind to wander around. Tomorrow presentation of C Perfume 14th. Besides being a perfume it’s also a concept and a philosophy to see by smelling. There’ll be also a presentation of an exclusive edition where you as a spectator has to spray daily the scent on a canvas prepared with a special product to keep the tracks of the spray. Then you just have to stand in front of the canvas with your eyes closed and by smelling imagine where you think about. It’s a kind of meditation and reflection. It’s creating a visual in the mind, a work of art you can only experience by yourself. The perfume is the translator, catalysator to achieve this. When you do this daily after some time you might start to see also something in the stains, spots of the sprayed fragrance and you can decide to create your own olfactory portrait or an abstraction. C Perfume goes about seeing through smelling. Giving meaning to your scent memories and experiences. Together with the special prepared canvas comes a print of the ingredients. As most perfume(r)s keep their scent composition secret, I prefer to show all the ingredients. We know that almost all perfumes are made with synthetic fragrances or in combination with natural scents. The ingredients are written with their official INCI names and when there’s no INCI name I’ve put their scientific chemical name. It becomes an abstraction of the perfume. The scent composition is created with the IFRA regulations in mind. IFRA regulations are there to protect against allergic and other reactions to scent. With this work I hope that people see the advantages of scent compositions and that perfumes can also be a work of art. A work of art that you can enjoy on your body and when you want. I just received The Book Of Perfumes by Eugene Rimmel from 1865! A great collector’s item to add to my collection. I guess some perfume addicts are going to be jealous as it’s hard to find this one in such a good state.
