Hopefully this post won’t get too soppy...
But 2nd April I went in for my Scoliosis surgery, in order to have my spine straightened. Without going into too much detail, I’ve known I’ve had scoliosis since I was 13 and it has been the biggest burden on my confidence and comfort ever since.
I’m now finally home after a long week in hospital - it has, without a doubt, been the toughest week of my life.
I cannot thank the staff and my surgeon enough for all of their work and the kindness they have shown me.
Also not forgetting my amazing family and friends who have been there every step of the way. (One massive shoutout to my beautiful Mum who hasn’t left my side all week and is continuing to look after me at home.)
I am so over the moon with the results of my surgery and I finally feel comfortable in my own skin.

Proud of one of the newest CG Leaders, Izzy of Wichita, KS, for showing off her scar from her recent spinal fusion! Have you ever worn an item of clothing that purposefully shows your scoliosis? It's a great conversation starter!

CLC MEMBER FEATURE: My name is Katie, I’m 20 & I’ve had numerous illnesses for a majority of my life, I’ve been treated for scoliosis via growth rods & spinal fusions since I was five, chronic pain, chronic fatigue & migraines.
•
In 2011 when I was 12, my spine crushed my spinal cord, paralysing me. At the time I was given twenty four hours to live, spent three weeks in intensive care, ten weeks laid flat & five months in hospital. For a few years after I was sicker than I’d EVER been. I was NG fed, 24hr care and more of my time was spent in the hospital than at home. - fast forward two years I took my first steps!

My health still isn’t great, I have lifelong effects of the spinal injury that are unfixable and I suffer frequently with severe pain and fatigue . But I’m so grateful I can wake up in the morning, put my feet on the ground and take the steps people never thought I would. I have some pretty dark days, I have PTSD + other mental health conditions, what pulls me through is not only the incredible people I have around me but thought that tomorrow is a new day, a new day of opportunities, adventures and knowing how easy it can all be taken away, it makes me want to live.”

My illness has shaped me into the person I am today & I wouldn’t change a single step of my journey!️ #chronicloveclub
