Happy Hmong American Day! Happy Hmong Lao Veterans Memorial Day!⁣ ⁣ Today, May 14 is special for many reasons. On this day in 1975, the last of the Hmong soldiers working with the CIA withdrew from the Secret War in Laos and flew out with their families to safety. Hmong folx have been in the United States for 44 years ever since. It has been a long and hard battle to get legislation to recognize our people and what we did to help the US. But we finally made it happen. I have so many people I want to recognize and thank, but it’ll be too many for one post so I’ll start with where I come from.⁣ ⁣ I come from⁣ my parents carried on the backs and⁣ fronts of my grandparents⁣ Running through the jungle⁣ ladened with bombs and lifeless bodies⁣ Dodging bullets⁣ Eating tree roots ⁣ Shushing babies and covering their mouths⁣ I come from bravery and “give it your all”⁣ Crossing the Mekong River by swimming⁣ or hiring Lao folks to boat them across⁣ I come from lost aunts and uncles⁣ because they were starving and too small⁣ to survive the journey⁣ I come from soldiers who left their families in order to bring back hard earned money⁣ But later on to find them missing and gone⁣ I come from a line of warriors⁣ I come from fighters⁣ I come from survivors⁣ I come from resiliency, stubbornness, and strength ⁣ ⁣ Don’t tell me to go back to where I came from⁣ because⁣ I am already here.⁣ ⁣ Image description: [Asian American standing on a gravel path. It was my last day for the 10x10 challenge! Swipe to the last picture to see how I feel about that. • While there were a few days I definitely thought “I would so much rather be wearing something else,” it gave me a huge appreciation for what I have. Outerwear and bandanas are key! • All in all, it was such a success that I decided to do my first official try at a spring capsule wardrobe. For the next season, I’m wearing 45 items including shoes and outerwear. And keeping shopping to even more of a minimum. • The other thing I learned is that there is a huge lack of representation in my personal wardrobe. Most of my things are secondhand, but I need to focus up and be more aware of how I spend my money. Grateful for all the teaching and learning from this challenge in particular.

We’ve been blessed with some ridiculous sunshine this whole trip. I’m starting to think that packing rain boots was a bad idea, but maybe they were good luck? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Yesterday’s Seattle adventures included eating, thrifting, visiting some fancy shops, eating, and going to the Pop Culture Museum (we loved it!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today we will spend a little more time here then head to Vancouver! Who's that girl . We've been rewatching New Girl lately, and it's throwing me back to Jessica Day's 2000's quirky hipster meets Anthropologie goddess style. Which I'm pretty sure is why I threw this odd combo together. . By the way, in the winter, SO many of you are constantly asking me about my tights and the true story is that they're usually several years old and from CVS. BUT @swedishstockings sent me a few pairs I've been loving, including these, so I'll try to share a few more detailed photos of them before it gets too hot!!
