On the trip to Connecticut last weekend for the XJR-15 owners gathering, I took the opportunity to deliver a very special cargo to Vantage Motors for fettling....Dad’s Aston Martin Lagonda . My brothers and I convinced him to buy it when we lived in Toronto in 1988. Dad had a 560sel at the time and when he saw how excited we were to find the Lagonda for sale in The Globe and Mail newspaper, he rubber stamped the whole deal on the spot. It was one of two Lagondas in Canada at the time...the other was owned by theater producer Garth Drabinsky who owned the Pantages Theater in Toronto. This one was owned by Robert Campeau who gained fame in the early 80’s with his purchase of Federated Department Stores including flagship Macy’s and Bloomingdale stores in NYC. Dad had just bought the 560sel a couple of months earlier (also at our urging ) yet he happily parted with it plus cash for the Lagonda. That was quintessential dad...if we were excited, so was he !! Vantage Motors in Stamford have been Aston Martin specialists for decades and they are going through the car...last item as you scroll is a short video of some initial engine tuning (ignition timing and carbs were way off). Thankfully, internals look strong . They are going to go through the cooling system and electrical systems as well.
