This past Saturday I sat on a panel and spoke at the @futureforus.co Assembly about Building your 'Personal Board of Directors' After many years of perfecting this list, I have 5 people that should always be on it: 1️⃣ The "Cheerleader" - The going gets tough and you need someone who knows you and encourages you to keep going 2️⃣ The "Let me keep it real" person - This person doesn't sugar coat it. They tell you what you need to hear. 3️⃣ The "Connector" - This person makes sh*t happen for you. They introduce you to people and companies to help you execute on your goals 4️⃣ The "Mentor" - This person has "been there, done that" and can coach and mentor you through your situation. 5️⃣ The Sponsor/Advocate/Fellowship - This person chooses YOU! They are the person that makes sure your name comes up in rooms you're not in. They are invested in you and will pull you up. Don't settle when selecting your board. It's also ok for your board to not look like you. I had tall white males on my board for the longest time. This list will change, and that's ok. You may even fire some of these people or outgrow them, and that's ok too. These are people that are helping you accomplish your goals and dreams, make sure you're also on others board and helping them out. We're all in this together!

This week I talked with @unboundbabes CEO Polly Rodriguez (@polly_claire). She started her sexual wellness company after surviving cancer at 21. Polly went through radiation treatment. That catapulted her into menopause... at 21. None of her doctors told her that would happen. She didn't know what to do. So she searched google. Nothing. Finally, a nurse friend recommended a vibrator because the cancer treatment had such a big effect on her body and sex drive. She was embarrassed. She was shocked. She was feeling all the feelings. And on top of it all, couldn't find a non-seedy place to find a vibrator to help her heal her body. So she started UnBound, a company focused on sexual wellness for women that's design-focused and accessible and non-shame-y. She's raised $3.7 million in funding from big investors. That amount of funding is unheard of in the industry. She launched a new career for herself.... from cancer. So she has all this money. SHE NEEDS TO ADVERTISE! She partners with a few local artists to make ads. And then she's banned from every ✅ social media platform ✅. Every one! That's where I pick up the story this week in my conversation with Polly. Here's one of my favorite quotes from our interview: - “And yet women's bodies have been used since the dawn of time to sell products in a very sexual ways. It's always been really frustrating that we're trying to have the right conversation, and we're trying not to be sexually explicit, and yet these are conversations that reinforce the narrative that you shouldn't be having these conversations out in the open.
