Hi friends: ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I wanted to talk about the various types of silicones! Note - silicones are completely safe for your skin and hair. There are SO many different variations of silicones and how they perform on your hair and skin. I've highlighted the different types based on their chemistry! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ . 1. Evaporative - These silicones are volatile. They usually evaporate shortly after using using your product. There is zero build up. And the distribution is very even. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 2. Easy wash out - These silicones don’t evaporate and are excellent at conditioning hair. Dimethicone may build up for damaged, curly or colored hair. However, all other hair types find that these are perfect at giving them the right amount of shine, spreadability, smoothness and heat protection. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 3. No build up - This group consists of silicones that have “amo,” “amine” or “amino” in their name. This type of silicone sticks to your hair better. They form a positive charge which means they stay on your hair for longer. They also increase hair strength because they protect the hair strand from moisture evaporation. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 4. Build up - These types of ingredients are non-water soluble which requires sulfates in order to remove them from your hair. That’s because they form a thick coating on your hair. Note - these ingredients are completely safe. They are excellent at heat protection. The downside is that they don’t allow moisture into the hair shaft which can cause easy breakage. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ . As always, every hair type is different. These ingredients may or may not be problematic for your hair. It’s all about trial and error and what works best for your hair. . I hope this was helpful! Comment below for any questions :)

Let’s try understanding the ingredients together Save this post to always be prepared . Yesterday it was pointed out that many of my products are not super cgm safe. For example to use sulfates once in a while is totally ok, as long as there is a deep conditioning treatment afterwards, but certain silicones & alcohols can be death for the curls. ☠️ So here is a table that I found & summed up from naturallycurly.com, which helped me read and at least understand the ingredients. Hopefully it’s helpful for some of you too For sure, it takes time & memorizing a lot of chemical ingredients until you can recognize cgm safe & not safe products. But to know the essentials is a legit first step! . #curlstagram #mycurlystory #curlyhair #curlyhaircare #haircare #germancurlysunite #curlygirl #curlygirlmethod #alcoholforcurlyhair #siliconesforcurlyhair #hairproducts #ingredients #chemicals #curlytalk #curlyhairtalk #hairtips #curlyhairtips #curlyhairdontcare #curlsjustwannahavefun #embracethecurls #alcohol #silicones #cgm #cgmsafe #cgmsafeingredients

Hi friends, ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Let’s talk about Silicones. I have so much to share. I tried really hard to make this post simple, but educational and informative. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣The word “silicone” may sometimes sound dirty, likely because it conjures thoughts of synthetic materials. The truth is that silicones synthetic. They’re made from a combination of silicon, oxygen, and often other elements—typically carbon and hydrogen. In that sense, silicones are derived from natural ingredients but undergo chemical processing in order to be used in products. The fact they they’re synthetic doesn’t make them inherently bad, though.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Silicones are LARGE and OPEN structures. Check out the structure of Silicone. It has a LARGE open space in between. This means it can freely allow water, air and actives to pass through. That’s pretty awesome, because it means it can allow any type of ingredients such as vitamin C, retinols, Niacinamide to pass through and get to work. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Finding a serum with a silicone base will be very helpful for actives to penetrate into your skin. There is absolutely no need to be scared of silicones in a skincare product. They are completely harmless. While silicones don’t stimulate collagen or help conditions such as hyperpigmentation, they are able to provide a quick fix for wrinkles, fine lines and a better sensory experience with cosmetics. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ They are extremely smooth and emollient in texture due to their unique fluid properties. Overall, silicones are used to improve the feel, appearance and performance of all types of skincare (and haircare) products. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Silicones also create a nice barrier on the skin that locks moisture in. But, this barrier doesn’t suffocate skin. Skin doesn’t have lungs. Without lungs, it can’t breathe or be suffocated. Not to mention, silicones have so many gaps in their structures. That means they can trap water in without interfering with your skin’s natural functions. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I hope that the structure of silicones makes you understand WHY silicones do NOT clog pores and how it allows for penetration of other ingredients. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I really hope this was educational. Let me know if you have any questions or comments below!

. . . #cabelo #cabelospoderosos #lowpoo #cabeloperfeito #cabelodivo #cabelomeu #cabelosaudavel #negra #cabelolindo #nopoo #รєgυndåτσp #riodejaneiro #crespos #silicones #cabelotop #cenoura #hidratação #hidrataçãocapilar #siliconesinsolúveis #cabeloscresposecacheados

#AD Hair is pretty fragile, and also dead - so protecting what's there is super important to getting "healthy" hair! Silicones don't work for all hair types, and certain silicones will be better for different people, but it's underrated what silicones can do for hair. Silicones can smooth out the hair cuticle, which stops cuticle scales from snagging and breaking off when you comb your hair or just move your head around. Silicones can also make hair stronger and more resistant to snapping, plus protect it from heat damage. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My personal favourite is amodimethicone - I love how it makes my hair feel like it's almost undamaged, without weighing it down! I've been trying out the @elizavecca_ Cer-100 Collagen Coating Hair Protein Treatment lately which contains it, and I've been really impressed by how well it's working! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ More silicone myths in my video on them - link in stories (also comes as a blog post) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ {sponsored by @grant.industries} #skincarescience #beautyscience #silicones #cosmeticscience #skincareingredients #haircare #hairscience #ingredienttalk #beautymyths #skincaremyths #grantindustries #siliconesrsafe #nontoxic #knowthefacts #skinsafety #cleanbeauty101 #haircareingredients #haircaremyths
