We’re finally home. It felt like forever that I’ve been in the hospital, and it’s just amazing to come home realizing we’ve left as a family of 3 and now we’ve grown to be a family of 4. I’m still a little nervous thinking about how much Lemmy still seems to struggle with accepting her new baby sister, but I’m positive we’ll get there slowly now that we’re reunited. I’ve used these past couple of days at the hospital to think and read a lot about how to best support Lemmy to get used to Ethel; it actually helped a lot to diminish my worries and deal with the little “welcome” tantrum she threw when we arrived. Ethel is such an angel baby so far, she’s so calm and sleeps relatively well, so I’m hoping that will make it easier for her big sister not to consider her as a threat. : Amber had to stay in hospital for longer than we all thought at first, after she experienced complications while giving birth to Ethel. It’s nothing too serious, but the doctors said it would be better to monitor her for a couple of more days to make sure everything is healing properly. We went to visit her and Ethel every day, but particularly Lemmy was struggling quite a bit with not having her mother around at home for this long. I’m so relieved I was finally able to tell her now that she doesn’t have to wait any longer since Amber and Ethel will be coming home later today. For me as a grandfather, these moments of surprise - when my granddaughter is making such big wide eyes, almost knocking me over with her big bear hugs – they’re truly the most wonderful gift in the world.
