Happy Saturday! Let’s have a chat about AHAs for a moment. ✨ ▪️Over the last few months, the skincare industry has been hit with a massive influx of new AHA-containing products, including but not limited to: cleansers, toners, masks, serums, and creams. We have found some incredible ones, especially the three in this photograph (a serum, toner, and mask), but do you really need AHAs in everything? The answer is a definite no. In fact, we had to take a serious look at our skincare routine and the products we accept as PR recently, because too much of a good thing (even as good as AHAs) is never a good thing. ▫️ ▪️AHAs, or Alpha Hydroxy Acids, are chemical exfoliators that also cause sensitivity to the sun. They’re strong, and need to be used in moderation. We simply don’t need them in every single step of our routines! If you notice your skin becoming drier, tighter, dehydrated, or is starting to peel, maybe it’s time to take a break from AHAs. ▫️ ▪️ We recommend that you stick to pure AHA products, like the ones pictured here, and only use them a few times a week, at night only. We also recommend checking your cleansers, moisturizers, and non-AHA focused treatments to see if they contain AHAs, as that might be your main source of sensitivity. ▫️ ▪️ It’s also important to keep in mind that AHAs don’t play well with Vitamins A & C, as that can cause major sensitivity issues even when used in small doses. Creams and cleansers should typically be mild and free of actives if you’re using separate chemical exfoliants. ▫️ ▪️ One of the most important things to do when using AHAs is simply following the directions per each product.
