Us Vs them... I watched the lovely video of Prince Harry absolutely beaming while announcing the birth of his baby. And I had a few thoughts... Firstly, how lovely. He looked so genuinely happy. Wonderful wonderful. Secondly, how great to have so much support for them... Thirdly was it brought back a memory of when I was left alone with the baby after giving birth. All I could think when I saw Harry's video was, "I'd have been gutted if my husband had gone out..." When we got home from having Bethany, CJ did go out. He popped outside to take the bins out. He'd been gone maybe 2 minutes. In that time, I'd convinced myself that he'd left me. Because by this point I hadn't slept for several days, was in excruciating pain, hormones were fucking me up and anxiety was beginning to crush my already shredded nerves. Why am I writing this? I guess because the fourth trimester, that time after having a baby, can be wonderful but it can also be brutal. To all the new parents out there, much love and strength to you. ♥️♥️♥️ And lots of cake. Allergy Awareness Week⠀ ⠀ Breastfeeding an allergy child⠀ ⠀ It’s a common myth (even some GP’s and HCP’s believe it) that you have to stop breastfeeding if baby has allergies. ⠀ Back in 1982 when I was born my mum breastfed me. I was sick all the time, not gaining weight, covered in a rash. They put me on soya formula and it helped. ⠀ Reality is that my mum could have cut food from her diet and continued feeding me. ⠀ ⠀ When Annabelle was born 5 years ago she developed eczema. We eventually had some allergy tests done and found she was allergic to milk. From that point on I was dairy free and her skin was much more controllable. She stopped boobing at 12months after a nursing strike. ⠀ ⠀ When Imogen was born I went dairy free again just in case. Turns out, after a long process (see yesterday’s eczema post) that she’s also allergic to milk, eggs, nuts, sesame and oats. So now I’m free of all those and continue to breastfeed her now at 2yrs old. ⠀ ⠀ So you can absolutely continue to feed your baby if they have allergies. It may not be an easy, quick road to travel whilst finding out what those allergies are, but you’re still providing your baby with all the vitamins, minerals and antibodies they need for the journey. ⠀ ⠀ If you need any support, please get in contact. (Plus you can see the beautiful pictures of Lucy from⠀ @Littleliftsblog) ⠀ ⠀ NHS Education for Scotland (NES) say: ⠀ ⠀ ‘ACEs have been found to have lifelong impacts on health and behaviour and they are relevant to all sectors and involve all of us in society. We all have a part to play in preventing adversity and raising awareness of ACEs. Resilient communities have an important role in action on ACEs.⠀ When children are exposed to adverse and stressful experiences, it can have a long-lasting impact on their ability to think, interact with others and on their learning.’⠀ ⠀ We can help to reduce ACEs by, amongst other things, ⠀ supporting parents and families⠀ building resilience in children and wider communities⠀ encouraging wider awareness and understanding about ACEs and their impact on health and behaviour⠀ ⠀ Zoe writes, ‘Research has shown that secure attachments build when a child’s needs are consistently met, building trust and security in a loving, caring environment.’ ⠀ ⠀ Slings can help facilitate this so easily.
