PICKING MY DONOR⁣ ⁣ I’ve been asked a lot about how I decided on my donor and to be honest that was probably the hardest part of the whole process for me. I’m picky with the guys I date let alone choosing half of my child’s DNA.⁣ ⁣ To start with you are given a few pages of donors that list the following information:⁣ ⁣ Donor code, ethnic origin, blood group, nationality, build/height, skin tone, eye colour, hair colour, occupation and nationality. ⁣ ⁣ From there you decide what’s important to you. For me, I wanted a child to look as similar to me as possible. So I went for Caucasian and fair skin. Everything else was a bonus, blue eyes, blonde hair, tall.⁣ ⁣ The next step is to pick a donor code you like the sound of and ask for the extensive list. ⁣ ⁣ The extensive list then details everything about the donor. Why they decided to donate, parents physical characteristics and ancestry etc. It also provides a detailed medical history of the donor and his family. Any known conditions, history of illness, cancers and diseases etc⁣ ⁣ The donor I selected had no medical problems and I felt that I couldn’t ask for much more than that. You are not given photos of the donor at all (some places do).⁣ ⁣ Donors in Victoria aren’t paid, they must complete a police and child protection check and undertake counselling. They say it takes a a village to raise a child. Well I’m lucky enough to have these three queens to help me do it.⁣ ⁣ I wouldn’t say we were always this close (moody teenage years) but the relationship we have today is so strong.⁣ ⁣ I consider my mum to be my best friend, I tell her everything and she has been my support from day one. From coming to appointments, googling every step and messaging me each week to tell me what size bump is now. She is RIDICULOUSLY excited for him to arrive and I love her for that. I hope I can be half the woman and mum that she is.⁣ ⁣ I am the eldest sister and I look at my sisters and watch how gorgeous their children have been raised. The strength that they show really inspires me and I am so grateful for my little man to have such amazing aunties and cousins.⁣ ⁣ My family threw me an epic baby shower this weekend. I honestly didnt expect it to be so beautiful. So thank you for everything and thank you for all that you continue to do.
