The next person who predicts we will soon have winters without snow is going to get hit in the face with a snow shovel. Since February 1 I’ve measured over 5 feet of freshly fallen snow at my business. That is way above normal, to the point dozens of buildings in the area have collapsed. One dairy farm had a building collapse with 100 cows inside but miraculously none of them were seriously injured. Most of the inexpensive hoop style storage buildings and greenhouses in the area have collapsed. My neighbors pole building collapsed in the middle of the blizzard two weeks ago. One second I looked out the window and it was standing, the next it was caved in. My business is located on the remnants of an old dairy farm, so the buildings are huge. I’ve spent the last two weeks fighting to keep them standing against the onslaught of snow. Last Saturday I was working late in my woodshop and as I was locking up noticed a section of the ceiling that seemed abnormally low. Upon further inspection I discovered two of the trusses directly over my head were in the process of breaking. I couldn’t hear the wood cracking because I was wearing earplugs all night. I got on the roof and shoveled as hard as I could in the balmy -5°F temps, and by 3AM I had that section of the roof clear and saved my shop and equipment. Unfortunately in the last two weeks I’ve spent more time shoveling and clearing snow on the Bobcat than I have working. To make matters worse we have more snow on the way tomorrow, so I had to spend today frantically shoveling off the rest of the snow on the building I use to store my lumber and slabs. There was so much weight on the roof some of the gusset plates on the trusses were pulling apart and I was scared it would collapse on my kiln. I shoveled like hell all day, and managed to get the bulk of it off. As proof of my efforts you need only look at my shovel since I’ve almost worn through the handle with my prosthetic arm. I FEEL AMAZING!!!!! I’ll be 100000% honest with you guys, when I first heard the word “detox” my brain immediately registered it as “cleanse” and my reaction went something like: “Nooooo!!! Can’t do!
