October: Ultrasound Awareness Month. A job that {most} think we just look at cute babies all day long. It can be extremely difficult. We know immediately when your baby no longer has a heartbeat, when the cancer has spread, when a clot in your vein may kill you, when drugs affected your heart, when your aneurysm looks like it’ll burst at any moment, when your baby is growing outside of your uterus and your life is in danger. And we can’t tell you ANY of it..We are the eyes of the doctor. We also get to celebrate when you get pregnant after trying for 10 years, have your rainbow baby, the mass isn’t cancer, the surgery was successful. Our job isn’t “fun” and “happy” all the time. It is challenging but worth it. Show your sonographer a some love this month. ❤️

I think I’m still in shock. I did it. I passed the last and final exam. As of this morning, I’m now RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) certified. Officially Jordehn Alexis Lenker, RDMS, RVT ‍⚕️ “I heard your prayer. Trust my timing” These past couple months has been the most stressful for me. I didn’t talk about it because quite frankly I was embarrassed, and disappointed in myself. I attempted to take the Vascular Technology board 3 previous times. Every attempt I failed by 1-3 questions... I was devastated. Although I shouldn’t have been, vascular isn’t my specialty. On a daily basis I perform abdomen, small parts, gyn, and thyroid ultrasound exams, even procedures and biopsies. Here and there I perform a vascular study. I was being so hard on myself, some of the studies I’ve never ever seen before. The third time I failed I kept asking why. I studied for months upon months, I kept asking myself why. Why God. I unfortunately had to temporarily resign from my ultrasound position. Thank goodness I also work for Younique, I still had an income and saved up enough. In my time off, I found the answer to my why. I over worked myself, I was working during the week, and doing 12 hour shifts over weekends and then coming home to study. God was trying to tell me to take a step back, breath, and just enjoy life. I was missing out on life, i wasn’t spending time with my family, my friends, and my boyfriend. I lost the big picture of life. I didn’t give up. I didn’t stop until I felt proud of myself. To anyone else out there, struggling, pushing for a goal... Keep going, although at the time it may seem impossible, I promise you it’s not. A little faith in God, support from friends and family, and self determination can go a long way. Today was a milestone. A year and half ago I decided to go back to school and today I completed my first day of clinical rotations. In less than a year (with God’s help) I will be a diagnostic medical sonographer.
