It is a wonderful day today!!! It is the final day of Tour de Fleece, and I am spinning on my Tyrolean wheel plus my CPW (not pictured here). Some of team beauty and the fleece met today and spun together and talked about fibery things and life. It was a relaxing time. We also forgot to take our group photo! Whoops! Now, I am back home and will work on the rest of the TdF spins before midnight hits. I can’t wait to post the results of the yarns I have been working on. ☺️ How is your Sunday going? Thanks for all the love on my current #tourdefleece spin, guys! I’ve had some requests to share what technique I used to create the “rough gradient” and what exactly I mean by that, so I thought I’d make an actual post explaining what I do. It’s going to be a little long, but I know peeps like those details! Also little side note: For a perfectly flowing gradient I’ll normally use hand carders to get those super smooth color transitions. This method of sorting strips means that the transitions still flow as a whole but in a much more piece-y way, with fun bits of contrast throughout! . ✨ Start by separating the braids into lengths of about 10-12 inches. Then split those pieces 2-4 times lengthwise. The more times you split at this point, the cleaner your final sorted gradient will be. ✨ Now find yourself some space and start planning! I usually organize mine by equally considering both color transitions and color value. ✨ Everything shown in the photo was stuffed onto a single bobbin and I just spun each strip one after another from its “wispy end.” I started with the green on the top left and worked my way down the row and around going clockwise. ✨ Typically I n-ply all my gradient spins, but this particular project is an experiment! I’m actually doing the whole process twice. Then those two bobbins will be spun together to {hopefully} turn into a super awesome marled gradient 2-ply skein of epic hugeness. But yeah, n-plying is totes my default when not in mad scientist mode! ✨ Optional: Pet a doggo for being a v good doggo. . I hope this explains the process clearly! Fiiiiinally plying! ‍♀️ I was actually getting a little worried I wasn’t going to be able to finish by the end of #tourdefleece, but I made some good progress last night and today so I think it’ll still happen! Almost done with the pretty pinks and then it’s on to the interesting bits that mark the halfway points of each bobbin. Considering casting on a project with this yarn as soon as it’s done! How rare!
