Sun is finally out and getting that much needed Vitamin D! ☀️This antioxidant has tons of benefits from proper immune function to absorption of other vitamins like calcium for your bones. Personally I feel better when I get my daily dose of sunlight.. all you need is 15-20 min a day to take the stress away! #SunshineVitamin #HealthisWealth
As we enter into the height of flu season I want to bring up an article I read on Vitamin D in infants __
Vitamin D has several immunomodulatory functions, including upregulation of antiviral peptides that are part of the innate immune system and can inactivate the influenza virus
__
A recent study compared doses of 400IU and 1200IU of Vitamin D in infants
__
Results showed that incidence of developing influenza in the high dose group was 26% versus 46% in the low dose group
__
For those that did develop influenza:
⠀⠀
1️⃣The high dose group showed a faster reduction in temperature compared to the low dose group
__
2️⃣The high dose group showed a rapid improvement in the time required to resolve cough and wheezing
_
3️⃣The viral loads in the high dose grouped decreased more rapidly compared with those in the low dose group
__
4️⃣Viral load between the 2 groups was the same on day 1 but when rechecked at day 4 and 7 it was significantly lower in the high dose group
__
These results suggest the high dose vitamin D treatment exerted an antiviral effect to promote recovery
__
It is important to monitor vitamin D levels as you don’t want to get too high it can be toxic at high levels

Seeking out that sunshine!
Growing up on the Gold Coast in Australia and then living in Melbourne & in England (during winter ) has really taught me that sunshine is such a key part of my overall happiness.
Seeing blue skies in general makes me happy but the vitamin D that comes from sunshine hitting our skin is important for so many reasons -and definitely has an effect on our mood.
Vitamin D is helps our:
•Brain function- improving our ability to make decisions, concentrate and retain information.
•Immune System- Vitamin D supports our inner SWAT team, who seek out and destroy any invading pathogens. Shout out to all you hardworking white blood cells, keep up the good work!
•Mood- improves depression, anxiety, insomnia & motivation levels. Low levels of vitamin D increases our risk for mood disorders.
•Hormones- Vitamin D even affects our hormone balance, low levels interfere with proper testosterone and estrogen production.
Make sure you are getting enough of the sunshine vitamin! 10-20 minutes per day of sun exposure on bare, un-sunscreened skin should do the trick. But if you aren’t so lucky to be living in a sunny place right now, like me, you can supplement with a good quality Vitamin D3 spray or capsule.
-Talk to a health care professional if you are struggling with any of the problems associated with a gloomy winter. I am available for online consults and would be glad to work with you
VITAMIN D AND MOOD | Good morning lovelies! The sun is shining so beautifully where I am so I thought of writing a post about the important link between vitamin D and our mood. Research has already showed that a lack of vitamin D is also linked to low mood, depression and anxiety
~
Whilst you can get this vitamin from some sources of food which are not many, or via supplementation; sunlight remains the best source of this important vitamin ☀️
~
Back home this week, I was surprised to hear that many people are still vitamin D deficient despite living in a sunny country such as Italy. The culprit? As we are all unique individual your body possibly might not absorb nutrients and vitamins at an optimum level or you might spend time in the sun but all covered up by clothes and SPF cream. Whilst it is important to protect your skin from sunburn, in order to get you vitamin D you should expose at least 40% of your body without any sunscreen for around half the time it takes for your skin to begin to burn at least 3 times a week. This could be just 15 minutes for a very fair skinned person or a couple of hours or more for dark skinned individuals ♀️♂️
~
☀️So, whilst you are waiting for those rays of sun to kiss your derma, go check with your doctor and ask to have a blood test done to see your vitamin D levels. When I first had mine checked my level was at 47. It increased to 75 after a course of supplements and hit 100 after the sunny days we had last summer in the UK. Remember, you really want to keep your level around 100 + to feel on top of the world. Happy Tuesday everyone ☀️#vitamind #sunshinevitamin #sunnydays☀️
