Climbing humongous mountains has got to be one of the most rewarding things in my current life. In this case, I spent 4 days climbing up to the almost 5000m pass of Abra Del Acay and spent those days feeling miniscule whilst looking up in admiration and with respect at the seemingly never ending mountain tops. As I crossed 4000m, the air I breathed became less rich in oxygen, and my lungs felt like an inefficient organ, whilst my heart was beating with an unfamiliar thud. This all intensified as I approached 5000m and breaks became more regular and my breaths shorter and sharper. On the 4th afternoon, I finally reached the top and stood back in admiration at what I had just achieved whilst repeatedly scanning the road i had just travelled with my eyes and catching my breath. The mountains had made me feel so small and weak at times and yet in that moment, I felt like I was stood on top on the world, a champion of the climb. A 3 hour descent brought me back down to 3800m where the air once more felt to be more of what my body craved and my altitude headache subsided. At camp that night I reflected on what had occurred over those few days. It's true that I had felt incredible whilst stood on the top, but it wasn't that feeling that I wanted to remember. It was the feeling of the struggle, the climb, the weakness getting overcome by strength and the true respect I have for those mountains and the power of nature. In that moment and as in times before, I was reminded that the reason I am on this journey is not to feel like patting myself on the back after a tough ride, it's to feel the discomfort of it all, the raw feeling of adventure and to prove to myself that with a bit of desire and determination, anything can be achieved ⛰

Been having a ball in patagonia. It is well and truly low season, and we have the place to ourselves, even on the bigger roads. Given, we have to put up with cold nights for the luxury. But the autumn colours are phenomenal, we have had next to no wind and clear skies - for now.
