I was back at work today after almost three weeks off. It was nice to be back and see some friendly faces but at the same time it reminded me how much I want to change my life to be able to spend more time outside. I’ve made small changes already, like working a compressed week so I have a three day weekend. It still doesn’t feel like enough though and I need to work hard over the next couple of months to make the most of my time!
The energy taken to hike across the country finally caught up with me too and I spent most of the day yawning. A far cry from how I felt last week standing high above Glen Callater on Jocks Road.

Day 57: 20.9 miles. Woke up to dark skies closing in, so I packed up quickly and got my raincoat on. It started pouring as soon as I started hiking and continued all the way to where I hitched into Hamburg, PA. I resupplied and hungout for a few hours while my battery pack charged, then got a hitch back to the trail. I spent the afternoon navigating slippery rocks and muddy trail. I decided to call it a day early to dry my feet out and rest my legs, and I'm pretty happy I did because right as I finished setting my tent up more thunder rolled in and it started to rain
Day 6 Pinhoti Trail - Today actually really sucked. I made some poor choice and mistakes, the trail was awful, and it was hard to find positives. But somehow, despite the suck, I was able to maintain a happy and productive attitude. This is something I could not have done a couple years ago. It helps that this is not an all out push and I’m not chasing a time goal like on the Arizona Trail. So why did today suck? I’m glad you asked. It started by sleeping in later than usual because then I felt like I wasn’t making progress all day. I am not setting an alarm out, only listening to my body and on this morning it apparently wanted to sleep. For most of the morning the trail was muddy, and then I missed a turn off the old road I wanna we following. It took a half hour to realize I was off course, at which point I had to turn around. An hour later wasted. Then in haste I plowed ahead with limited water. In the 92 degree heat I was without water for 9 of the 14 Miles. A headache insure and really only lead to frustration. I will be fine combating the dehydration, unfortunately I have had to overcome a blunder nearly twice as serious in Montana. The rest of the day was spent on an overgrown trail with thorns and hitchhiking needles sticking out of every plant. It wasn’t very pretty either, but the good comes with the bad and the day could have gone worse. I just hope I don’t get too much reaction to all this poison ivy I am walking through. Once again I got chased by dogs, but made it through the tough day. Miles 36.5

Day 56: 30.2 miles. Had light rain as I fell asleep, but woke up to clear skies. Ran into some trail magic early on in the day which brightened my mood after yesterday's less than stellar day. Soon after I left the trail magic I crossed the 1,200 mile marker. Despite the rocky trail I was feeling good and was able to hold a steady pace. A pace that was abruptly halted later in the afternoon by a very stubborn rattlesnake coiled in the middle of the trail. After I made my way around it I hit my last water source for the night. Filled up my bottles, hiked a few more miles, and found a nice spot to set up camp
Day 55: 30.6 miles. A storm rolled in last night right as I was going to sleep, and it rained pretty heavily through the night. When I woke up in the morning it was still raining, so I rolled over and dozed back off . When I woke up the weather had cleared, but I realized I had slept for another 2 hours! I packed up quickly and got moving down the trail. It was a hot and humid day and rain clouds continued to build up. I spent the afternoon trying to stay ahead of a thunderstorm, but by late afternoon it inevitably caught me. A torrential downpour started with some marble sized hail mixed it. The already saturated trail quickly became flowing body of water. I still had quite a few more miles to get in though, so I trudged on. The hard rain didn't last for more than hour but the rest of the day was spent on flooded trail
Day 52: 21.2 miles. Slept in and took it slow this morning. @ericatooker made me an amazing breakfast and then we packed up and she gave me a ride back to the trail. We said goodbye and I was moving down the trail a little after 11am. Felt a little sluggish after two days off, but I was stoked to be back on trail. A couple hours into the day the AT welcomed me back with a brief downpour with a lot of thunder. Thankfully that blew by quickly and I had sun for the rest of the day
