So, I ordered this wig a year ago... and I was fine with it then... but as we (the Grey Co. Collective) started building/sewing/crafting all of our costumes for our epic Tolkien group cosplay... Things were turning out nice. Like... too nice to wear a low quality wig. So I researched how to add a lace front to a cheap wig... And voila! It is painstaking and tedious, but I feel like it’s worth it. I used a piece of Swiss lace that i normally would have just discarded from my Talia wig, and then harvested wefts and individual hairs from Princess Daisy 1.0 wig. “What do your elf eyes see?” ...well besides a big drop in followers for some reason ...a shift, in how I feel about being a cosplayer. When I started cosplaying, I felt embarrassed, awkward, and like I didn’t belong. I was an acne ridden, timid 13/14 year old who was surrounded by experienced adults with more money, skill, and knowledge of their characters and their source material. Now, I still have so much more to learn in posing, building, sewing, styling, and branching into new techniques, but I feel like I have a stronger sense of community and friendship, as well as a means to achieve a look that makes me think: “Wow, i’m really starting to embody this character I love!” It’s a new, exciting, and nervous feeling but it keeps me pushing forward, constantly challenging myself creatively. I get a surge of personal pride every time I finish a cosplay and wear it now, and that feeling keeps me inspired and driven. When I started this account, I didn’t post much, always scared I wouldn’t have anything good enough to share. But now I have such a range of content, and I am incredibly humbled at the journey and progress I see i’ve made. And of course it always helps to have such amazing friends like @sakebombcosplay who set up fantastic meetups, creators like @whitsend_productions that kindly open their homes to complete strangers, and talented, encouraging, and hardworking photographers like @bentheretryingtodothat @eric_manix_photography @36frames who give their time into providing wonderful content that I can be proud of, knowing the group effort that went into every post #cosplayersofinstagram #thehobbit #tolkien #tauriel #taurielcosplay #evangelinelilly #elvesofinstagram #middleearth
