The other night my brother called at midnight. He never calls at this time so I answered in a panic. I just knew he was calling because something bad happened. Turns out, he didn’t know it was so late. I couldn’t tell you what we discussed because my amygdala has been activated and it took me about 30 mins before I was back to my “normal” self. . . Our kids who have experienced trauma may have a sensitive or over-reactive amygdala so there could be several things through out the day that are triggering for them. . . Some of our students are so used to this feeling of an amygdala hijack that the absence, or state of being calm, feels abnormal. . . Once hijacked, it can take hours for their pre-frontal cortex to take back control and during this time, there isn’t much learning occurring.

Well... it snowed a “little” more last night. Lol! Updates on the teacher friends that I know of...since we weren’t able to leave school when the kids were released....it took one of my friends 5 hours to drive home and she got stuck. Her dad had to come get her. Another friend didn’t make it home til 9pm. #teachersarepeopletoo
