Peach foxgloves
One of my all time favourites all grown from seed last year- really enjoying their spectacular marshmallow peachy pink display! Must sow some more foxgloves for next year, I’m always on the look out for unusual colours, does anyone have any recommendations? .

The most beautiful kale variety I grow: songbird pink ✨ Usually sold as an ornamental kale, I don’t use it as such, I sow this seed exclusively to eat it. And it’s definitely a contender for my top 3 fave variety’s of kale, so if you have a chance to purchase some seeds for this tasty, beautiful, and excellent producer... go for it! I doubt you’ll be disappointed. #kale #songbirdpink #organicgarden #homegrown #sunshinecoastbc #spring

Good bugs and bad bugs.... who decides what is what?
So many people ask me what the difference is. So here’s my explanation- I hope it makes sense!
.
I would consider a ‘good bug’ any bug that brings benefits to the garden- bugs and insects that pollinate flowers, fruit and vegetables or bugs and insects that eat ‘bad bugs’. I would call bugs and insects ‘bad’ if they eat all my flowers, vegetables and herbs or I’d call them bad if they eat all my good bugs.
.
BUT! And here’s the but... So many bugs that are classified as ‘bad’ are extremely beneficial to the garden. They pollinate with their foot traffic and they eat other ‘bad bugs’ that nothing else will. In fact, some of the bugs that are deemed ‘bad’ by some, actually play a vital role in your gardens eco system.
.
So what’s the answer for me? I stay away from any pesticides, herbicides and anything ending in ‘cide’. Anything that kills bugs and insects doesn’t exist to me. Bug killers kill all bugs- there’s so discrimination with pesticides. I also plant things that attract the things I want to attract- specific flowers, herbs and plants that welcome the bugs I want more of. In my garden Perennial Basil flowers all year round and brings the bees flocking to the garden. The bamboo I use to protect my vegetables from Bush turkeys create rough insect homes for all sorts of creepy crawlies to live. Attracting native birds to the garden is also helpful because they love to eat bugs. Same with lizards, they do a terrific job of eating snails and slugs in my garden. I attract lizards my creating rocky mounds and hideaways for them.
.
There’s a wealth of information out there- from internet searches, to gardening books and awesome Instagram gardening accounts. Find the bug you’d like some more of in your garden and find what it is that you need to plant to attract it. It won’t be long before your little eco system balances out. When something moves in to take over, find an organic solution and sit back, relax and enjoy your garden- and the wealth of bugs living all around you.
Happy gardening everyone!
