The warp threads pass through the dents after going through the heddles and before becoming woven cloth. The number of dents per inch (or per cm or per 10 cm) indicates the number of gaps in the reed per linear width. The number of warp thread ends by weaving width determines the fineness of the cloth. One or more warp threads may pass through each dent. The number of warp threads that go through each dent depends on the warp and the desired characteristics of the final fabric, and it is possible that the number of threads in each dent is not constant for a whole warp. The number of threads per dent might not be constant if the weaver alternates 2 and three threads per dent, in order to get a number of ends per inch that is 2.5 times the number of dents per inch, or if the thickness of the warp threads were to change at that point, and the fabric to have a thicker or thinner section.

Whether figured or flowered, jamdani is a woven fabric in cotton. This is a supplementary weft technique of weaving, where the artistic motifs are produced by a non-structural weft, in addition to the standard weft that holds the warp threads together. The standard weft creates a fine, sheer fabric while the supplementary weft with thicker threads adds the intricate patterns to it. Each supplementary weft motif is added separately by hand by interlacing the weft threads into the warp with fine bamboo sticks using individual spools of thread. The result is a complex mix of different patterns that appear to float on a shimmering surface. The pattern is not sketched or outlined on the fabric, but is drawn on a graph paper and placed underneath the warp. Jamdani is a fine muslin cloth on which decorative motifs are woven on the loom, typically in grey and white. Often a mixture of cotton and gold thread was used.

Table screen printing.
.
Once the design to be printed is ready, the screening is done. The screen is made of a metal frame with a light cloth in the centre. As you all see one color can be printed at a time, so the number of screens will be dependent on the number of color in the design. After screening, the required dye is prepared to be printed on the fabric. The fabric is usually spread over a wax table of minimum 30 mtrs. The wax in the table acts as glue to hold the fabric when printing is done to maintain accuracy.
After printing the fabric undergoes a process called curing which helps maintain color fastness on the fabric.

Like a painting to see the patterns emerge on a Kani weave loom is indeed a magical experience.
The Kani(stick) are wooden spools that artisans use to weave colors in based on an artists sketch translated into a meticulous graph, in the past these instructions were chanted by a master weaver.
Kani weaving, a very fine twill tapestry technique has truly stood the test of time.

Craftswomen of Kutch working on Ahir and Soof embroidery:
Ahir with vivid colourful floss silk threads, stitches involved are chain, blanket, herringbone on cotton/silk/mashru/woollen fabric which dazzles with high contrast, predominantly round forms, mirror in the centre and outlined intricately.
Motifs traced are inspired from the surrounding of nature, animals and birds.
While Soof embroidery is done without tracing, geometrical patterns are made counting the threads with satin and cross stitch mostly done on woollen and cotton.
I absolutely love Kutch embroideries but Soof took special corner of my heart for its distinct style form from rest of the other embroideries

Madhubani art or Mithila painting was traditionally created by the women of various communities in Mithila region of India. It originated from Madhubani district of Mithila region of Bihar, and, it is popularly called Mithila painting or Madhubani art. Madhubani is also a major export centre of these paintings. This painting as a form of wall art was practiced widely throughout the region; the more recent development of painting on paper and canvas mainly originated among the villages around Madhubani, and it is these latter developments led to the name Madhubani art being used alongside the name "Mithila Painting."

The women of the Meghwal tribe,
The Meghwal women in Kutch are renowned for their exuberantly detailed costumes and jewellery. Married women are often spotted wearing gold nose ring, earrings and neckpieces. They were given to the bride as a "bride wealth" dowry by her soon-to-be husband's mother. Nose rings and earrings are often decorated with precious stones of ruby, sapphire and emerald. The Meghwal women's embroidery is avidly sought after. Their work is distinguished by their primary use of red, which comes from a local pigment produced from crushed insects. The Meghwal women artisans of Thar desert in Sindh and Balochistan, and in Gujarat are considered master of the traditional embroidery and Ralli making. Exotic hand-embroidered items form part of dowry of Meghwal woman.

The women of Kutch
She is subtle strength
.
She is quiet courage
.
Her indomitable spirit is her wealth
.
Her inner voice is her inspiration
.
She is the season of change
.
She is the fountainhead of progress
.
She is the source and force of Life.
.
An expanse of white salt encrusted desert plain, sparkling blue waters of the ocean, splashes of colour on a barren landscape, and intricately embroidered clothes worn by smiling people… think of Kutch and these are the images that flash through the mind. Think again and you will see the brilliant hues of Kutch – the bright orange and red bandinis fluttering in the air, the glittering mirrors on backless blouses reflecting them, the earthy tones of the pots and pans, the intricate threads of the embroidery creating a different pattern . Kutch work is one of the most exquisite arts and crafts which literally takes your breath away but it is the stories of the craftswomen which are even more inspiring.
