Day 26 of #MOVEember
#cowfacepose / #gomukhasana
Admittedly, I had to be careful with the hand clasp due to my lovely wonky shoulder but this is still a nice pose.
Added bonus: the view is incredible here.

“One of the most important lessons I learned was to be authentic; even if what comes out is messy and blurry. People will always see through the bullshit, they see through a fake smile and a stupid quote; but if you can be real and raw with the truth even if it’s not the picture perfect image you thought it would be, that’s real power. I’d rather live my entire life expressing what I feel in each moment in an emotionally intelligent way then put a smoke show and a filter. People need to know that it’s okay to be where you are, even if it’s sucks sometimes.”⠀

Good morning my loves! I’m about two hours late on my Monday morning post, but this weekends event at Artists and Fleas had me slightly exhausted but it was sooooo worth it. What was the main question people asked? “What is Ayurveda?” If you attended my launch event or watched the livestream, you know my goal is to make that question go away - I want everyone to know what an Ayurvedic lifestyle looks like and how it can change your life. I’ve gotten so many comments about how happy I look all the time, and everyone seems to want to know my secret. The truth is, there is no secret. If you’ve been following my page you know that I’m pretty open about what I’m doing and how I’m evolving - yoga and Ayurveda truly did create all the changes you’ve been commenting on.
If you want to know what Ayurveda is, why some food and exercise choices work for others and not you, how essential oils can change your life, and what changes you can make in the summer that can create lasting benefits to your overall well-being, please join me and @thewellthyteacher at our workshop this Wednesday @yogacollectivenyc at 5:30. You’re certain to leave knowing what your dosha is and how you can create some simple changes that will create lasting benefits for your mind, body, and soul. You’ll also engage in an awesome yoga class that’s perfectly cooling for the summer season and sample Yinsa products that aren’t on my website yet! The link for the workshop is in my bio, and I’m happy to answer any questions you have - just send me a dm. I’m excited to see you on Wednesday!

I had the honor of spending my weekend with some of the most inspiring women, and in just two days I’ve learned so much about both who I am and who I could be.
I have an abundance of love for my yoga community today and I just don’t have words to describe this feeling- they don’t exist in the English language. While munching on some @sweetgreen last night, I shared with these girls how I spent the year contemplating what type of teaching role I should have. I felt held down by a system with a philosophy I am unaligned with. I value the work that I do and the impact I have on my school community, but I don’t control the vision of that community. I only have as much power as the system allows me to. The more impact I have, the more they system tries to shut me down. I could do one of two things - I could try to change the system, or I can create a new one. I’d rather create a new one. .
People walked away from last night’s experience with @selfsoulsport and Yinsa having done something real to create change. The money collected will be used to fund legal fees for families who have been separated at our borders. There were three generations of strong women, and one really awesome guy, discussing not just where we’ve been or where we are, but where we could go. I have met so many people through these platforms and networks and circles, and we all have an abundance of love but we also have so much pain. My teacher told me that pain and joy are two sides of the same coin. If It’s the same energy and we choose to channel it the same way - by loving instead of hating -we can be agents of change regardless of the size of our platforms. Talk less and act more by choosing love.
Thank you for the best weekend in a long time, ladies. You inspire me to be better, and I am grateful for it. I see a wellness retreat, as well as multiple ways to support those whose who struggle, as a result of all of your inspiration. Thank you for making me better and teaching me that we can still do so much more. Now, who is manifesting a quick yoga retreat with @alexzandrapeters and @thenortheastyogi with me WE NEED THIS IN OUR LIVES!!

I took a whole day off yesterday! I can’t remember the last time I did that. No social media posting, no writing. I spent the day nourishing my whole entire soul and it felt so good. Today, I woke up with guilt. Why is that?
.
I absolutely love what I do. I love that I have the opportunity to teach and write, two things I love more than anything in the world. I fear, though, that if I stop for a moment, all my skills will disappear into the ether. I’ll forget my sequences or run out of content ideas - this panic around failure has been with me for decades. Yesterday, though, I said “screw it.” I took a soul survivor class at SoulCycle - first time I’ve done the longer class and I don’t think I’ll ever do a regular class again. I took a two-hour master class with Yogi Charu, my first yoga teacher once I decided to split from Bikram, and the saint who introduced me to Bhakti philosophy, Hatha yoga, and the idea that everything is temporary. I reconnected with friends who I missed dearly, but wrote off because they couldn’t meet my impossible expectations. I realized why I don’t really drink or go to bars anymore and I spent the evening thinking about next steps for Yinsa. It was a work-free dream day, and it made me wake up with a productivity mindset, lots of love in my heart, and a desire to make my next moves better than ever. Sometimes, I just need a little kick-ass cardio, yoga nidra, and a connection to my community to get out of my own head and sit with my soul. When you have a purpose-driven business, you have to leave space to hone your purpose and remind yourself of what matters. You can’t do that while you’re writing a blog post, and you can’t write when your head is overcrowded. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me take time off. You are appreciated ❤️

Day 2 of the #offandonthemat #tsytycchallenge is about letting go. How do we create space in our lives in order to foster growth? .
Following a very stressful June, I thought I was in the clear. Unfortunately, my body disagreed. When I least expected it, I had two physical reactions to excess stress, malnourishment, and lack of sleep. But I’m a yogi! Wouldn’t we expect that I would know how to say no, take on a reasonable amount of responsibilities, and practice self-care 100% of the time? The answer is no. I am a yogi, and I am also human. There are times when I am out of alignment. There are times when I take on more than I can handle. There are times when I am not taking care of my body. What makes me a “yogi,” typically, is that I quickly recognize those things, back off, and return to love. When I convince myself that taking on all these things is necessary for survival, however, my mind chooses to ignore what my body needs. It chooses instead to believe that if I don’t do it all, I will perish. When the connection between the mind and the body is lost, both the mind and the body suffer.
My path back to love is through meditation. When I meditate for at least 5 minutes everyday when I wake up, I am creating space for growth. I am shutting down, tuning out, and reconnecting my body and mind. This meditation can be done in many ways, sometimes it’s guided, sometimes it’s mantra-based, (Japa or Kirtan), and sometimes it’s not. Sometimes I just sit down, shut up, and breathe. That’s the hardest thing in the world for me to do. When I’m at my most stressed or experiencing trauma, that’s usually what I need.
.
There has been nothing in my life that has had a greater impact on my well-being than my meditation practice. 5 minutes a day can change your life!

The #tsytycchallenge post today is all about #playtime! Here’s my video of my grown-ass self going to the Battery Park Sea Glass Carousel the other day when it was about 100 degrees. My devoted partner-in-crime for this adventure didn’t really bat an eye at the suggestion that we visit. He knew full well that I never “act my age.” I don’t even know how - I’m pretty certain that I was born and will die with the heart and soul of a 16-year-old.
I visit a lot of carousels, though I’m not exactly sure how that became my adventure of choice. I also play in sprinklers and oceans and giant green fields whenever I get the chance. I’ve always been an experience person - what can I do today that I’ve never done before and will probably never do again? This video serves as a reminder that we should surround ourselves with people who say, “sure,” when we want our playtime. These are the best #playmates
