This little turreted structure is supposedly where Mary, Queen of Scots, used to bathe in sweet white wine. Therefore it is known as Queen Mary's Bath House... However, it is more probable that the curious building was used as a summer pavilion or dovecot. It was once attached to a boundary wall, enclosing the King's Privy Garden and the Royals would most likely would have used it as summer house. The building is datable to the last quarter of the 16th century. It was restored in 1852. Stuck between a rock and a beautiful place⁣ ⁣ As tempting as it is to stick to the road which passes through Glencoe (which does have some incredible views), it’s easy to miss the River Coe which winds its way through the valley, creating awesome rock features and mini waterfalls like this one.⁣ ⁣ To spot them you’ll need to walk and explore from the various lay-bys on the road, Sometimes it’s only a few 100 metres from the side of the road to the river, other times it can take a bit of a scramble to find a good vantage point, as you’ll see from our story.⁣ ⁣ Either way, even if you aren’t into hillwalking or hiking, we’d definitely recommend venturing a little way from the main pass to see the glen in a different light.
