The coziest spot “in” the house.

When we moved here we had certain ideas for our future and the future of the house. The first open house we had came about when we started a Facebook page for the manor. We got bombarded with people in the community wondering about the possibility of tours. At this point we had been in our home for 5 months and had already experienced constant visits from strangers that had been in awe of the house for years. We thought, why not give it a go? That first weekend of May 2015, over 3,000 people toured Duncan Manor. At that point we knew this house was more than just us. Chances are, I’m prob one of the few minority accounts you follow for design. So in case you didn’t know, this month is Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. I’ve had some questions asking my ethnicity. I’m Laotian! Ava was two here dressed in her traditional Laotian outfit . How cute is that? . I didn’t appreciate my background growing up bc I didn’t feel a sense of belonging when my family came to the US. I was embarrassed by how others would perceive our accent, the smell of our food or how little we had financially. For those that don’t know, my family fled our war torn country and lived in three refugee camps before going through the vetting process to arrive in the US when I was 7. Who would’ve thought I would go on to have a college degree and work for a fortune 50 company . My work had an amazing event where I got to hear four powerful stories about belonging. I held back tears as I was able to relate. These stories are not about who had it better or worse but rather to share our vulnerabilities. We all have a story. It’s a way for us to have empathy for others. I hope you all feel proud to share yours as well as take the time to listen to others. #apaheritagemonth

Taking a closer look at some of the windows around the house. This one looks like it was chewed on by an animal trying to get OUT of the house. Speaking of animals, we hired a nuisance wildlife specialist and he has trapped eleven raccoons so far.
