So I was scrolling on twitter and seen someone retweeted a tweet where someone else asked “Are you afraid of death? This is a serious question”. I pondered it for quite some time and allowed myself to answer honestly and whole heartedly. You see I was afraid of dying at one point, I cried and screamed that I didn’t want to die. Hell I was 27 when I was diagnosed. Who at 27 wants to accept that? But then I researched. And researched. And researched my butt off on cancer and how it works. I studied the science of cancer cells and our cells and also those around me who were either surviving cancer or dying from it. I researched chemo and radiation and all the negative impacts that can happen. I then came to the realization that I had to be realistic. Yeah I’m in remission, but realistically the ability to sustain that is up in the air. I had to accept that I won’t live to see 40. As shitty as it may be, that is my reality and while I have come to terms with that reality, I have not accepted leaving my child and just what kind of damage my death can inflict on him. Anyone who knows me knows I live for him. I am alive because of him. So to know at some point I will be taken from him out of nobody’s fault. Out of our control, it hurts. It hurts to look at him and know that I will do that to him. And every time I’m reminded of that, I cry. Because out of everything he’s ever brought me to fix, this is the one thing I can’t. So you see no matter what we think, death is easy. Even accepting to anticipate it becomes easier. It’s what you leave behind that’s the hardest part to cope with. PET SCAN UPDATE: So I got my results back from my PET. For the most part everything is good and clear. However, they spotted two very tiny nodules on my left lung. So tiny there was hardly any metabolic activity and they couldn’t discern what it was. NP said you would typically see that if you are getting over an infection. They are awaiting my labs to assess my tumor markers. As of now they just want to closely monitor to ensure its nothing serious. As for the tiny spot on my brain, NP said it’s too tiny to discern but the nuero-oncology board all agreed it could very possibly be necrosis. I will have another chest CT and brain MRI in March to check everything again. I’m still on my xeloda and CBD to ensure we keep my body as clear as possible. While it’s not bad news (Thank God) I just ask you all to continue to pray for me and my niece. Cancer is one crappy ass journey.
