I walked the whole state of Oregon!! Today is day 40 of my second attempt at this journey, and I'm so proud of myself. I've hiked between 5 and 22 miles each day, and I took three days with zero hiking. I averaged 12.1 miles a day, including the days I took off. I walked home, and that's pretty cool.

Last night I camped with a 61 year old man named Harmonica who was finishing up his thruhike of the PCT which he began in 1967 as an 18 year old. In ‘67 his pack weighed 60 pounds, he hiked in his Levi’s, he wore 5 pound leather boots (which he still wears), and he carried a full size harmonica which I listened to him play as I fell asleep that night. .
.
Tonight I camped with 7 PCTA volunteers on an 8 day project to clear the down trees and clean up the trail past Hart’s Pass. Having done a decent amount of trail work myself im always in awe at how beautifully constructed the PCT is. But I find myself daydreaming about hiking it during the first years of its creation and imagining what it would be like. Harmonica filled in some of those gaps

Just crossed into Vermont! The state’s Long Trail and the AT share the tread-way for 105 miles. The Long Trail then heads north to Canada while the AT heads to Maine. 3 states to go!

⛺️✌
The 19 PCT miles through Lassen Volcanic National Park felt like a school field trip. A few short side trails led us to a geyser and a boiling mud spring. We also had multiple bear sightings, jumped into Lower Twin lake, and witnessed nature doing some weird stuff when a tornado-like wind mysteriously took down several trees a few hundred yards from the trail (when we didn’t feel any wind at all). We had zero expectations for this park and were certainly pleasantly surprised.
