Today, we did something very different and extremely out of our comfort zone. We took the girls to the Augusta Pride festival. I've always been so nervous for the day that the girls start asking "those" questions. You know the questions I'm talking about. I was never allowed to have an open dialogue with my parents about these things and I definitely want them to be comfortable talking to us about anything. I want them to understand how important inclusion is. Overall, the festival was very family friendly and fun. It was an awesome community event that was extremely positive. There were tons of booths raising awareness of HIV/AIDS. We also signed a petition to help lower drug costs. I've never been around so much love and positivity. It was heartwarming to see so many people just comfortable being themselves. It was even more wonderful seeing random people ready to spread love with "Free Hugs" signs. Today was truly beautiful. *

Have you had these conversations with your children? How did it go?
Let's talk about book reviews but with a different lense. Gonna get tough this Tuesday but I'm hoping for good conversation around this.

So, I just completed a classic from my list for #getclassicallylit and although I think I enjoyed it mostly there are parts of it that certainly jaded my experience. The world was different back when these books were written. The views and language more critical and harsher in a sense. There were parts of my last book that had me cringing. I didn't even want to read the words fully in one scene because it was so... abrasive and honestly it was racist. .
.
How do you handle reviewing a novel like this? .

I've always been different.
I see things upside down.
I didn't want to follow the norm.
I didn't want to be like everyone else.
I didn't talk about my feeling.
I always had trouble feeling remorse.
(That last one might sound like a serial killer)
I just want to be me. But, who am I?

"See, anxiety doesn't just stop. You can have nice moments, minutes where it shrinks, but it doesn't leave. It lurks in the background like a shadow, like that important assignment you have to do but keep putting off or the dull ache that follows a three-day migraine. The best you can hope for is to contain it, make it seem as small as possible so it stops being intrusive. Am I coping? Yes, but it's taking a monumental effort to keep the dynamite inside my stomach from exploding." - under rose-tainted skies.

Did I finish this book in one sitting? Yes, yes I did. You know why? Because it hit home. Because I could feel the pain of everything Nora was going through right here in my own chest.
I do not suffer as bad as she does in this novel, but I do suffer. Anxiety, depression and OCD are scary, overwhelming and restricting to say the least.
If there is a book you pick up this year, I highly recommend this one. 5/5

QOTD: do you talk to those around you when times get hard? Or do you prefer to keep it to yourself?
Parenting is hard. Motherhood is hard. It is time to rebuild the village. .
