I did some Twitter research and saw mostly positive reviews from the people out in London. Some of the MLB fan pages out there held big events at bats for a sport where, for most in the UK, are being exposed to it for the first time. I don’t know about you but if baseball is supposed to be boring, I guess they forgot to tell England that. 60,000 strong packed out the house for two straight days and were hot for both teams no matter what the score. In the US, if Didi is hitting a bomb when the score is already lopsided, it doesn’t get the reaction that it did. And look. I get it. The MLB wanted to deliver baseball to the UK but instead what they got was the Quiddich World Cup. High scoring mayhem for games that lasted for a long time. For sure those balls were juiced even more than they were in the 2017 World Series but, if we’re looking at how the games played out in front of that crowd, the eyes and attention never left the field. When the NFL plays games in London they are an afterthought. (Mostly because they send the Jaguars.) I still see people online talking about the Yanks and Red Sox though. Also for all our complaints about the game, give baseball credit for sending its number 1 franchise and their rival out there. They could have easily mailed it in and sent the Pirates and Brewers. Instead they sent Aaron Judge and Mookie Betts - two guys who are the faces of Major League Baseball. The NFL would never feature a game with like Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes. Absolutely zero chance of that. Look at how lame the NFL games are in London this year. It’s like they went halfway: Bears vs. Raiders, Panthers vs. Bucs, Bengals vs. the Rams, Texans vs. the Jaguars. Like Ew.
