Little fuzzy but I like it!

Time to share something personal but at the same time very public. Some of you know, that I was evacuated from Pripyat after Chernobyl Nuclear Accident in 1986. Since the HBO show came out, many keep asking me about my family experience and my thoughts about the events depicted in the show. I watched 5 episodes by now and it really stroke a chord. Especially, since I know most of the names and met some of the people depicted in the series.  Toptunov (the senior reactor engineer) was my father's friend, helped my parents carry a new fridge up our apartment in Lenin Avenue 17 in Pripyat. My dad visited him in Moscow before he died.  Ananenko and Bespalov (who, together with Baranov (RIP) prevented the 2d explosion as depicted in episode 3 of the show and recently were honoured with the Hero of Ukraine medals, were also good friends and I've met Ananenko in Kyiv, since he lived next door.  Lyudmila Ignatenko (the firefighter's wife) was evacuated to Kyiv and lived 3 floors down from us. I met her occasionally and played with her son (born 2 years after the Accident) couple of times. She told me about her husband's death and how they couldn't bury him in shoes, cause his feet were so swollen.  As a child I didn't realise the severity of being "from Chernobyl". It was only when my father died 13 years ago, that I started seriously thinking of the horrible accident my family and thousands of other families survived. Being a photographer, I returned to the Exclusion Zone again and again in the past years. My book “Prypyat mon Amour” came out in 2016. I think these events will be haunting me for the rest of my life.
