I forget how wrecked my body always feels during guiding season on days I guide, I usually go play, and on days that I’m off, I want to have the whole day to play. Packing for packrafting is a challenging process. You have all of your backpacking gear, food, plus a boat, a paddle, life vest, and dry bags. We also have dog gear, dog food, and a lot of emergency food for my boyfriend Ryan who is Type 1 diabetic. If you scroll to second photo you’ll see that I have some work to do to get my pack dialed so I don’t break my back ••• Once on the boat, I have a TZIP compartment that allows you to store dry bags and gear that you don’t need during the day inside of the packraft pontoons. I’m so glad we opted for this option since it helps distribute the weight and makes the boat less top heavy and more stable. Then the gear that I needed throughout the day was stored inside a dry bag inside my backpacking pack and strapped to the front of the boat. Next time, I’d definitely make some changes, like lighter weight dry bags in my pack, but I was definitely happy to have a pack with full suspension for the hike. Sunshine is the best medicine

Scenes, & thoughts, from yesterday’s hike/run... Let me be clear, I do not consider myself a runner. I have a love/hate relationship with running...but I had this thought yesterday while we were out & felt so good moving my body. I think that exercise makes you a better person. I really do. I think consistent exercise forces you to spend time with yourself. It forces you to understand who YOU are, & what you’re capable of. It requires you reach a level of discomfort where you have to decide who you really are, & what you really want. It requires you to show up & work hard, even when you don’t feel like it...& then it requires you to wake up & do it all over again. It teaches you patience, discipline, perseverance, effort, & drive. It teaches you will power...because I think will power is LEARNED. It teaches you appreciation for a body that is capable, & reminds you to be grateful for that health in times when you aren’t as capable. It will improve your mental strength, which will improve your mental confidence, which will improve your physical results. It will teach you who you really are, & then allow you to alter what you want to change about yourself. Through this process, it WILL make you a better person. So, yes...get a workout in because you want to lose weight, or wear that certain pair of jeans...but I hope you get to a place where you want to get a workout in because you want to become the very best version of yourself, both inside & out.
