‍ Last summer I retired from teaching. I had just turned 35 and it was a hard decision that some colleagues, friends, and family didn’t understand. Some people even said they were jealous I was able to stay home and many want to know my secret. So, I’ve decided to share it! • Are you ready?! . . . . Here’s the secret... • I am sick. Permanently. There’s no cure. ‍♀️ • So instead of teaching 6 year olds all day, I am trying to stay alive in a body that wants to shut down. Completing any task takes longer than it used to because my brain and limbs just don’t work the same anymore. I take naps several times a week and stretch out my tight muscles multiple times a day. I never know how I’ll feel from one day to the next; I can wake up feeling great one morning and like I was ran over by a bus the next. • Do you have any idea how exhausting that is? Hopefully you don’t. • Remember, NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE! We may look good on the outside and be self destructing on the inside. Hi! I have a bunch of new followers thanks to my Love What Matters article(link is in my bio), so I want to reintroduce myself! I’m Elaina and I was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in 2007. I recently found out that I also have hEDS (hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) although I don’t have an official diagnosis yet. I started this instagram account when I stopped teaching to find others who I can relate to. (I taught first and second grade for 10 years. ‍) I know that it can feel like you’re alone when you know that you’re sick and everyone around you keeps saying “but you don't look sick!” Invisible diseases are great, right?! The IG community is amazing for meeting others who are struggling with the same things. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have been together since 1999. We have one daughter who is graduating high school this month! I LOVE animals! ❤️ We currently have 4 cats and 2 dogs, all rescues . We started an Etsy store when I went on disability @barberscraftshop and I try to list items that help bring awareness to invisible diseases. I will be adding more, but finding the energy to do it can be difficult. Lol We are co-owners of SHTNONM and Steve loves car audio. I travel with him to car shows whenever I can and we’re doing a road trip to Slamology next month! So if you’ll be at Slam, stop by the SHTNONM booth and say hi! There’s been many ups and downs with this disease but the one thing that’s always consistent is who is by my side.
