Atlas here had a run in with a bee Did you know pets have allergic and hypersensitivity reactions too? Common symptoms include swelling to the affected area (usually around the face as our pets like to sniff to investigate), as well as rashes and hives. In some cases, pets can develop an anaphylactic reaction, which becomes life threatening. Little Atlas here developed a swollen muzzle, and loved the attention at North Lakes today .

What is Abnormal Skin Shedding?
All reptiles shed their skin. The medical term for shedding is ecdysis, but it’s commonly called sloughing or molting.
Healthy adult snakes shed their skin on a regular basis, generally about once a month but this varies depending on the breed. Younger snakes shed more often due to a higher growth rate, while older snakes shed less frequently.
Shedding is vital to a snake’s health, growth, and life expectancy. Shedding also removes parasites.
A healthy snake will slough its skin in one piece, including the eye caps; a new layer of skin grows beneath the old. Abnormal skin shedding in snakes is not a disease itself, but rather a sign of malnutrition, poor husbandry or an underlying medical condition.
If your snake exhibits abnormal shedding, visit your local veterinarian for a consult.
