My Victorian ballgown is complete...finished it mere hours before the ball this evening and very excited to wear it! It reminds me of the dress the little mice in Cinderella made for her... Based loosely off of an 1860’s Victorian lace gown that the talented @thesewinggoatherd made recently... I used taffeta from @coloradofabrics and vintage embroidered lace I found locally. Skirt is from a Tudor pattern and the bodice is a #trulyvictorian pattern. #victoriandress #ballgown #historicalfashion #costumingbts #1860sfashion #sewing #victorian #historicalcostuming #cosplay #victoriansociety #victoriansocietyofcolorado #bertha #1860sdress #costumehistory #babylockserger #janomesewingmachine
The Grade II-listed Fisons warehouse on Paper Mill Lane in Bramford #suffolk - a daily landmark on my commute to and from London, a building that I have long admired, however rundown and abandoned it was. An endangered Victorian wooden structure that is now lost forever #sad #victorianarchitecture #warehouse #destroyedbyfire #gradeiilisted #heritage #gradeiilistedbuilding #fisons #architecture #victoriansociety thanks to @skycameast

With a porch befitting the secular architecture of a town hall and a 105ft spire, St. Andrew's is a colossal Victorian parish church in the heart of North Yorkshire that you don't forget quickly. It really makes you think, "what am I looking at?". Completed in 1877 it is the only church designed by G. E. Street, a favoured architect of Sir. Tatton Sykes, where he was allowed to build a church from the ground up in its entirety. Sykes was a renown patron of restoring medieval churches and Victorian building in parts of Yorkshire and Street was often consulted and employed to restore much older buildings. The more you look at the church the more unusual it gets. Its features are... abnormal. It has been heralded as an attempt to revive 12th century gothic church architecture. Even to this end it appears a halfhearted (for lack of a better word) attempt. For example, a five light window has been inserted above the west porch, but why bother to make it look as if it has been cut in half at a later date when it hasn't? Tiled like a continental town house this is not an alien finish for Street, but it is certainly an unusual design. It is cared for today by the @thechurchesconservationtrust ·
The entrance to St Botolph’s Church- not to be confused with the much older St Botolph’s Priory which it sits next door to. The church is one of the earliest Victorian buildings in the town.
